Ole Miss Just Got A Week 7 Upset Call In Oxford

Will former Rebel quarterback Austin Simmons lead Mizzou to a surprising victory over Ole Miss, as Greg McElroy boldly predicts an SEC showdown upset?

Greg McElroy isn’t buying the idea that Ole Miss will hold serve in Oxford this weekend.

On his Week 7 picks video for the Always College Football podcast, the former Alabama quarterback and current college football analyst singled out No. 13 Missouri as his favorite upset play of the week, even with the Tigers heading into a ranked road test against No. 9 Ole Miss.

It’s a matchup loaded with intrigue beyond the AP numbers. Missouri’s Austin Simmons is returning to Oxford after spending three years in the Ole Miss program before transferring to Mizzou for the 2026 season. On the other side, the Rebels are rolling with Trinidad Chambliss at quarterback, setting up a meeting between former teammates after Chambliss replaced Simmons as the starter last year.

The game has plenty of weight in the SEC race, too. Missouri comes in at 5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while Ole Miss sits at 4-1 and also 2-1 in the SEC.

The teams are set for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on SEC Network, with the Rebels installed as the home favorite.

McElroy, though, thinks the road team gets it done.

“This is the upset on the board that we like the most this weekend. We’re taking the Missouri Tigers 28, the Ole Miss Rebels 27,” McElroy said.

“I think Missouri’s front will take away the run. I think (Mizzou running back Jamal) Roberts can keep the ball away from Chambliss.

And the rotation on defense will stay fresh enough to win the game on some late third downs. I think Missouri is a more complete football team.

Their recipe of running the football to the edges, that’s going to be the difference in the game. Give me the Tigers to pull off the upset in Oxford.”

McElroy’s prediction is one view of a game that already has plenty of attention. The current Kalshi market also has a read on the SEC showdown as Missouri heads into Oxford for one of Week 7’s biggest games.

Ole Miss Offensive Line Is Earning Trust At The Perfect Time

A lopsided win over Vanderbilt gave Ole Miss more than a clean result on the scoreboard. It also gave Pete Golding a chance to point to the one area he has been waiting to see come together, the offensive line, where all five starters earned player-of-the-game honors for the first time this season. Golding singled out the development of right tackle Connor Howes and left tackle Terez Davis, while also crediting line coach John Garrison for helping the group make steady progress.

Now the timing matters even more with No. 13 Missouri next on the schedule. If the Rebels are going to keep expanding what the offense can do, continued growth up front will be a big part of it, especially against a ranked opponent that will likely make Ole Miss earn every snap. The encouraging part for the Rebels is that the line no longer looks like a question they are simply hoping to survive. [Read more 🡒]

Missouri Brings An Awkward Reunion Into A Huge Ole Miss Test

As Ole Miss gets ready for a pivotal SEC matchup with Missouri, the game carries an extra layer of familiarity for Antonio Kite. The Rebels cornerback said the personal side of the meeting stands out because Missouri brings in former Ole Miss teammate Chris Graves Jr., one of several ex-Rebels now wearing Tiger colors after moving through the transfer portal.

It is the kind of wrinkle that has become more common in college football, where roster turnover can turn a conference game into something closer to a reunion. For Ole Miss, though, the larger issue remains the same: handling a Missouri team loaded with former Rebels and doing enough on Saturday to come away with a conference win. [Read more 🡒]

Trinidad Chambliss Is Forcing A Bigger Ole Miss Ceiling Debate

Trinidad Chambliss has become one of the biggest reasons Ole Miss keeps looking like a team with more room to climb. Through this college football season, he has piled up more than 1,400 passing yards and 11 touchdowns, production that has helped the Rebels keep pace in a demanding stretch of the schedule. Even with the spotlight growing brighter, Chambliss has kept the focus on the group around him, saying the team still has more to give.

That next chance comes against Missouri, where the matchup brings an added layer with former teammate Austin Simmons on the other sideline. For Ole Miss, it is another test in a run of games that will say plenty about how high this team can go, and Chambliss is right at the center of the conversation. The bigger question now is not whether he has changed the outlook, but how far he can push it from here. [Read more 🡒]
