Ole Miss Just Built Early In-State Momentum After The Auburn Win

Ole Miss secures its first 2029 recruit with versatile in-state talent Jordan Husband, marking a promising start to their future lineup.

Ole Miss added an unusual kind of commitment in the wake of its 45-15 win over Auburn on Halloween: a pledge from the 2029 class.

Pete Golding posted the shark emoji to his X account in the hours after the game, and the news behind it was in-state athlete Jordan Husband becoming the Rebels’ first commit in the cycle.

Husband, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound native of Brooklyn, Mississippi, already has two Division I offers. Ole Miss got in first in February, and Florida State followed in September.

For a commitment that far out, the obvious question is why he would make the call now. In Husband’s case, the answer seems tied to being close to home and feeling a strong connection with the program.

"The environment and how the coaches were treating me," Husband said of his commitment. "I just saw this was the place for me. It means that I get to keep grinding (in Miss.), and keep trying to get better, that is all it means to us."

Much of Ole Miss’ in-state work has been handled by recruiting assistant Donte Moncrief, the former Rebels receiver and Mississippi native. On Saturday against Auburn, Moncrief was seen talking with top targets and younger prospects alike, including Husband, who was on campus for a visit.

Husband still has more than two years before he needs to settle into a primary high school position, but for now he appears to be trending toward defense. Secondary coach Marcus Woodson has been the main recruiter in his case.

"I talk to Coach Woodson," Husband said. "Coach Woodson, that is my guy. We just chopped it up, and I also got to meet Trinidad Chambliss."

Through eight games this season at Forrest County Agriculture, a 4A school south of Hattiesburg, Husband has 31 tackles and five pass deflections. No offensive stats are listed on the Aggies’ MaxPreps page this season.

As a freshman, he showed up on both sides of the ball, catching 12 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns while adding five carries for 60 yards. On defense, he posted 67 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack and four interceptions.

"To the fans, y'all got y'all a dog," Husband stated. "And I'm going to put on a show for y'all, Hotty Toddy."

Ole Miss Just Got More Fuel For Its Georgia Showdown

Saturday night in Oxford already had the feel of a measuring-stick game, and now it comes with even more edge. No. 12 Ole Miss is set to host No. 2 Georgia in a Week 10 showdown that has been drawing plenty of attention since the early betting line opened with the Bulldogs favored by 3.5 points and the total sitting at 56.5 points.

Both teams arrive with momentum after recent wins, which only raises the stakes for a game that could say plenty about where Ole Miss stands in the national picture. For the Rebels, this is the kind of late-season stage that can sharpen a playoff rsum in a hurry, and it is exactly the sort of matchup fans in Oxford have been waiting for. [Read more 🡒]

Ole Miss Suddenly Has A Tony Mitchell Question It Didnt Expect

Ole Miss has a new roster issue to sort through after transfer linebacker Tony Mitchell was removed from the team in late September for reasons the program has not disclosed. Mitchell arrived in Oxford with plenty of name recognition, having once been a five-star recruit before stops at Mississippi State and East Mississippi Community College brought him back into the SEC picture.

He did appear in games for the Rebels, but he did not log any snaps in the 2025 season before his roster spot disappeared. For a team trying to keep its defensive depth intact, the timing makes Mitchell one more unexpected question to monitor as the season moves forward. [Read more 🡒]

Ole Miss Faces A Huge Kewan Lacy Problem Against Georgia

Kewan Lacys status has become one of the biggest Ole Miss storylines heading into a matchup with No. 2 Georgia, with coach Pete Golding saying the running back is unlikely to play because of a left shoulder injury. Lacy has been working back from a dislocated shoulder he sustained on Oct. 24, and he already sat out the previous game against Auburn, leaving the Rebels to adjust their backfield without one of their most important pieces.

If Lacy is held out again, Makhi Frazier and Shekai Mills-Knight are expected to split the rushing workload in his place. For Ole Miss, the issue is not just replacing carries, but trying to do it against a Georgia defense that rarely gives much away, which makes Lacys availability a key subplot as the Rebels prepare for one of their toughest tests.
