Ole Miss Is Starting To Look Dangerous On Both Sides

Ole Miss showcased a well-rounded performance against Auburn, excelling in time of possession and offensive execution while effectively stifling the Tigers attempts to mount a challenge.

Ole Miss left Auburn with a 45-15 win, and the Rebels did most of their damage after halftime. Auburn kept things close in the first half, but Ole Miss took control in the second and never let go.

A big part of that swing came from how the Rebels handled the ball. Ole Miss entered the game with the SEC’s lowest average time of possession, but on Saturday the offense held it for 32 minutes. That steady approach let the Rebels move the ball methodically and wear down Auburn’s defense.

Trinidad Chambliss settled in after a quiet opening stretch and finished with a strong all-around performance. He completed 22 of 34 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns, then added 65 rushing yards and a 26-yard rushing score.

He also threw an interception, though that play bounced off Deuce Alexander’s hands. Chambliss gave Ole Miss the kind of dual-threat punch fans had been asking for, and it showed up in the second half.

Deuce Knight also got in on the action, adding a 17-yard rushing touchdown.

The running game had to adjust without Kewan Lacy, and Shekai Mills-Knight answered the call. The freshman was the most productive back on the day, carrying 16 times for 71 yards and a touchdown. Makhi Frazier started but couldn’t find much room, finishing with 17 carries for 56 yards.

At receiver, Alexander had a rough one by his standards. He dropped a potential touchdown from Traylon Ray in the first quarter and later had another drop that turned into an interception.

He was targeted 10 times and finished with five catches for 59 yards. Still, the rest of the group picked up the slack.

Horatio Fields posted six catches for 73 yards and a touchdown against his former team, while Caleb Cunningham matched him with six receptions for 55 yards and a strong touchdown grab.

Ole Miss also got big plays from elsewhere in the passing game. Caleb Odom hauled in a one-handed catch for 34 yards, and Luke Hasz added two catches for 28 yards.

Up front, the offensive line welcomed back left tackle Terez Davis and kept Chambliss clean. Ole Miss didn’t allow a sack and finished with 224 rushing yards.

Defensively, the Rebels made Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown uncomfortable all afternoon. Brown was held to five rushing yards, and Auburn never got its ground game going. Will Echoles also chipped in with a one-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter.

The linebackers were a major reason Auburn had so little room to operate. Keaton Thomas led Ole Miss with eight tackles and added a tackle for loss and a pass deflection. Tah'j Butler and Suntarine Perkins combined for four sacks, and their pressure helped shut Auburn down in the second half.

Antonio Kite also turned in a solid outing against his former team. Auburn’s passing game never really threatened Ole Miss’ secondary, and the Rebels allowed just three receptions of 20 yards or more. Anthony Robinson III added a forced fumble in the fourth quarter.

Ole Miss Just Got A Ranking Check Fans Needed To See

The SEC race tightened again in Week 9, and Ole Miss did its part to stay in the thick of it. The Rebels handled Auburn 45-15 behind a big day from Trinidad Chambliss, who found the end zone three times, while the rest of the leagues upper tier kept moving in ways that will matter for the next ranking release.

No. 3 Georgias 27-8 win over Florida and No. 11 Texas road victory at Mississippi State both added more pressure near the top, and South Carolinas win at Oklahoma only added to the shuffle. For Ole Miss, the result was the kind of clean, convincing performance that keeps the Rebels in the conversation, even if the bigger question now is how far the latest weekend will move them when the polls are updated. LSU's Ranking Suddenly Carries More Weight Before A Massive Showdown

A wild weekend across the AP Top 25 has reshuffled the college football conversation just in time for a massive showdown, and Ole Miss has every reason to be watching closely. Seven ranked teams went down, creating movement throughout the poll and putting fresh emphasis on how the rest of the top tier is viewed heading into the next round of high-stakes games.

Ohio States loss to USC was one of the most notable results, with ripple effects that reach well beyond the Big Ten and into the broader College Football Playoff picture. Several teams climbed, others slid, and a few cracked the rankings for the first time this season, which means the margin for error is getting even thinner as the schedule tightens around the Rebels. Ole Miss Just Got A National Title Endorsement Fans Will Notice

A fresh national-title conversation has Ole Miss in the mix, with Danny Kanell naming the Rebels among five programs he believes have quarterbacks capable of leading a championship run. The former quarterback and current college football analyst put Ole Miss alongside Miami, Georgia, USC and Notre Dame, a notable nod for a program that has spent recent seasons trying to break through from contender to true title threat.

The Rebels place on that list adds another layer of intrigue around their quarterback situation, especially with Gunner Stockton, Trinidad Chambliss and Jayden Maiava also drawing mention in the broader discussion. Kanells framing does not settle anything, but it does underline how much quarterback play still drives the national conversation, and how Ole Miss has positioned itself squarely inside it.
