Ole Miss Has A Crucial Line Decision Before Missouri

As Ole Miss prepares to tackle Missouri, head coach Pete Golding faces a critical decision on the offensive line amidst ongoing injury challenges.

Ole Miss enters Saturday’s matchup with Missouri carrying one more question along the offensive line than it expected a few weeks ago.

The Rebels, ranked No. 9, host No. 13 Missouri at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in what’s already a high-profile SEC game. But beyond the attention on the return to Oxford of several former Rebels now wearing Missouri uniforms, Ole Miss is sorting through its own issue at right tackle.

Tommy Kinsler IV opened the season as the starter there after transferring from Miami, but a lower-body injury has opened the door for sophomore Connor Howes. That situation has turned into a real decision point for head coach Pete Golding heading into Saturday.

Ole Miss had to replace both starting tackles from last season after Diego Pounds and Jayden Williams moved on to the NFL. Pounds is with the Kansas City Chiefs, while Williams is with the Arizona Cardinals. Those departures left a major void, and the Rebels have spent the year trying to settle the edges of the line.

At left tackle, that answer arrived early. Terez Davis, a transfer from Maryland who joined Ole Miss before the 2025 season, won the job in spring camp and has held onto it.

Right tackle has been messier. The battle there was supposed to come down to Kinsler IV and Carius Curne, a four-star transfer from LSU. But Curne’s arrest in April changed the picture, and Howes, a three-star recruit from Ole Miss’ 2025 class, made a strong enough push in the offseason to become the backup behind Kinsler IV.

Kinsler IV won the starting job in Week 1 against Louisville, but his night ended with a lower-body injury. That forced Howes into action in a key spot.

He then played in Week 2 against Charlotte while Kinsler IV was still sidelined. The two split work against LSU and Florida as well, though Howes logged more snaps.

Against Vanderbilt on Oct. 10, the rotation almost disappeared. Howes played nearly every snap at right tackle.

"Tommy (Kinsler IV) was a little more banged up than we thought," Golding said. "We thought we were going to get him back healthy, and he came out of pregame and wasn't in a great spot."

Golding also pointed to Howes’ growth as the season has gone on.

"I think we're getting better and better every week, especially Connor (Howes). The more he plays the better he gets," Golding said.

Whether Kinsler IV returns to a shared role this week is still unclear. But Golding’s comments suggest Howes has earned serious trust, and the sophomore could end up handling most of the snaps against Missouri - and maybe beyond.

Lane Kiffin Family Drama Adds To LSU Fans' Frustration After Loss

Landry Kiffins social media posts during a busy SEC weekend added another layer to the conversation around Lane Kiffin and LSU, as the coachs daughter publicly showed support for LSU, Ole Miss and Texas while games were unfolding. The reaction online was mixed, but for fans around the league it was another reminder of how much attention follows Kiffin family storylines whenever big conference matchups are in the spotlight.

The timing was hardly ideal for LSU, which was coming off an upset loss to Kentucky that dropped the Tigers to 4-2. Lane Kiffin pointed to the details that hurt his team, including a punt return touchdown and turnovers, as execution issues piled up in a game LSU expected to handle better. [Read more 🡒]

Ole Miss Right Tackle Battle Just Got A Lot More Interesting

Ole Miss has already settled one side of its 2026 offensive tackle picture, with Terez Davis locked in on the left. The other side, though, is still very much up for grabs, and the battle at right tackle between Tommy Kinsler IV and Connor Howes has turned into one of the more watched competitions on the roster.

Kinsler opened Week 1 in the spot before getting hurt late, which opened the door for Howes to take on a bigger role, including a key part in the game-winning drive. Since then, the two have been splitting snaps, with Howes getting more of the recent work, and the staff is still letting the daily competition play out before making any final call. [Read more 🡒]

Ole Miss Secondary Takes A Hit With Missouri Looming

Ole Miss is heading into a critical stretch with another concern in the defensive backfield, as safety Edwin Joseph had ankle surgery after getting hurt against Vanderbilt. The timing is less than ideal with Missouri up next, and while the Rebels had been weighing the injury carefully, coach Pete Golding had already said the staff was pursuing a second opinion before the procedure.

Josephs status now carries even more uncertainty, and there is no clear timetable for when he might be back. For a secondary that has to be ready immediately, the likely absence of one of its key pieces adds another layer of pressure as Ole Miss turns its attention to the Tigers. [Read more 🡒]
