Ole Miss Georgia Showdown Just Got Bigger For Lane Kiffin

As the Ole Miss Rebels prepare for a crucial matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs, all eyes are on five-star recruit Asher Ghioto to see if his visit sways the future of the Rebels' 2028 recruiting class.

Ole Miss will have more than Georgia on its mind when the Rebels and Bulldogs meet Saturday night.

The matchup itself is already carrying plenty of weight. Ole Miss comes in after a dominant win over Auburn, while Georgia took care of Florida last week. With both teams sitting among the nation’s best, this one could go a long way toward deciding who gets to play in the SEC title game.

But the Rebels also have a major recruiting visitor on the way.

According to Rivals recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong, five-star defensive end Asher Ghioto is set to visit Oxford ahead of the game. Wiltfong reported that Ole Miss has stayed aggressive in its pursuit of Ghioto, and the Rebels will get a chance to make their pitch in person during one of the biggest nights on their schedule.

Ghioto had originally planned to visit Notre Dame, but changed course and decided to see Ole Miss instead. The Bolles School standout in Jacksonville, Florida, is the top-rated player in Florida and ranks fourth overall in the 2028 class, according to 247Sports.

The interest is easy to understand. Ghioto has already piled up 63 offers and is one of the most heavily pursued prospects in the country.

As a junior, he has put up 60 total tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. That kind of production makes him a major target, and he would be a huge addition to Pete Golding’s 2028 class.

There’s also a personal layer to this trip. Ghioto grew up pulling for Georgia and wore number 34 for Herschel Walker. Even so, the result in Oxford may not be the thing that matters most to him.

“What will impact my interest is how they respond to a loss… because that shows a lot about the leadership and emotional maturity on the team," Ghioto said to Rivals.

He wasn’t pointing that comment at Ole Miss specifically. The bigger point was that how a program handles wins and losses will matter in his decision. A Rebels win would certainly help the atmosphere around the visit, but it won’t be the only factor.

Ole Miss is still battling several schools for Ghioto’s commitment, and the Rebels need to leave a strong impression. Whether they win or lose Saturday night, the visit has to feel right. Ghioto needs to feel at home in Oxford.

If he eventually lands with Ole Miss, he would become the fifth player in the Rebels’ 2028 class. Latedrick Mallard, Braylen Bedford, Antavion Allen and Giovanni Tuggle are already in the group.

Ole Miss Just Got More Fuel For The Georgia Doubts

Bill Connellys latest SP+ forecast adds another layer to the buzz around Ole Miss trip into a marquee SEC showdown, and it does so with the Rebels still very much in the conversation. ESPNs model has No. 2 Georgia winning 32-23 in Week 10, a projection built on efficiency, explosiveness and overall performance adjusted for opponent strength. For Ole Miss, it is the kind of outside read that only sharpens the sense that this game carries real weight beyond one Saturday.

The matchup already has the feel of a separator in both the SEC race and the College Football Playoff picture, and a double-digit prediction only feeds the debate over how close the Rebels really are to proving they belong in that tier. Georgia remains the favorite on paper, but Ole Miss has enough around it to make this more than a routine test, which is why every national forecast now lands with a little extra attention. Ole Miss Faces A Hidden Georgia Edge In Top 10 Showdown

Field position has a way of shaping big SEC games before the first explosive play ever shows up on the stat sheet, and Ole Miss will have to pay close attention to that part of the matchup with Georgia. The Rebels have been starting drives at their own 27.5-yard line on average, while Georgia has been working from the 31.5, a small gap that can quietly add up over the course of a top-10 showdown.

For Ole Miss, that means every extra yard matters in a game where scoring chances may be at a premium and hidden advantages can tilt possession by possession. It will not decide the outcome by itself, but it is the kind of edge that can affect how often each offense gets into comfortable territory and how much pressure the other side feels to answer. Georgia Faces A Massive Ole Miss Test With Playoff Pressure Rising

With College Football Playoff pressure tightening around both teams, Georgias trip to Ole Miss has the feel of a game that could reshape the late-season conversation in a hurry. The Bulldogs bring one of the nations most balanced profiles into Week 10, with a defense that has been sturdy and an offense that can lean on a strong rushing attack, but this is not the kind of road environment that lets a favorite settle in easily.

Ole Miss has plenty of its own reasons to believe this one can go down to the wire, starting with quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and the boost of playing at home. The Rebels will also have to navigate the uncertainty around running back Kewan Lacys injury, which could matter in a game where every possession feels magnified, and the setup points to a tight finish with real playoff consequences hanging over it.
