Ole Miss fans made their message to Lane Kiffin impossible to miss on Saturday, and they delivered it loud and early as “College GameDay” set up in Oxford, Mississippi, ahead of the LSU-Ole Miss matchup.
The crowd in The Grove wasted no time turning the broadcast into a referendum on their former coach. Within minutes of ESPN going live, the anti-Kiffin chants were rolling, and the first one came through clear enough for everyone watching to hear: “F- Lane Kiffin.”
That tone carried into Kiffin’s appearance later in the show. He joined the “GameDay” crew for an interview, but not from the stage.
Unlike current Rebels coach Pete Golding, who was the defensive coordinator under Kiffin for three seasons, Kiffin appeared by video call. ESPN put his image on a large screen, and the reaction was immediate: boos, then more “F- Lane Kiffin” chants.
The crowd didn’t stick with the same chant for the whole segment, either. After a while, they changed things up and moved to an “a-hole” chant.
Kiffin was inside during the whole scene, but the reception he got in Oxford made one thing obvious: his walk into the stadium later was always going to be a show of its own.
The setting only added more juice to the day. Ole Miss and LSU have split the six Magnolia Bowls during Kiffin’s time in Oxford, and this is the second straight year both teams have entered the game unbeaten. Last season, Ole Miss beat LSU 24-19 and went on to reach the College Football Playoff.
