No. 9 Ole Miss gets a homecoming matchup in Oxford on Saturday, and the timing lines up neatly with a reunion of sorts. The Rebels will see former players Austin Simmons, Cayden Lee and Chris Graves Jr. across the field, while Kewan Lacy is set for his first game against his former school.
It’s only the ninth meeting between Ole Miss and Missouri, and the Rebels have just one win in the series, a victory that dates all the way back to 1974.
On paper, this one brings together one of the SEC’s more balanced offenses and a defense that has been vulnerable in the run game. Simmons and Lee have formed a dangerous connection for the Tigers, with Lee sitting fifth in the country in receiving yards at 616. Missouri has also leaned on the ground game, even after losing Heisman candidate Ahmad Hardy, with Jamal Roberts ranking second nationally with 828 rushing yards.
That rushing production sets up a major test for an Ole Miss defense that has struggled badly against the run. The Rebels will need cleaner tackling and sharper assignment football if they want to slow Missouri down.
The Tigers have also brought pressure on defense, tying for third in the SEC with 18 sacks. Ole Miss, though, has protected the quarterback well, allowing just 5 sacks, the fewest in the conference. Missouri has given up only 6 sacks itself, so this shapes up as a game where mistakes up front could matter quickly.
For Ole Miss, the expectation is simple: build on last week’s defensive performance and hope Kewan Lacy is healthy enough to shoulder the load. Against one of the more complete teams the Rebels will face this season, it looks like a true all-hands-on-deck spot.

Ole Miss Suddenly Faces A Secondary Test At The Worst Time
Ole Miss is suddenly having to adjust its secondary plans after Edwin Joseph Jr. had a tightrope procedure on his ankle following a high ankle sprain. The injury is expected to keep him out at least for the upcoming games against Missouri and Texas, a tough development for a defense that has leaned on him in key spots and now has to shuffle roles on short notice.
Pete Golding will turn to a group that includes Nick Cull, Sharif Denson, Joenel Aguero, Ladarian Clardy and Anthony Robinson III to help cover the load. The Rebels also need steadiness at boundary cornerback, where Antonio Kite, Jaylon Braxton and Jayln Crawford are among the options trying to keep the back end from becoming a larger problem at exactly the wrong time. Ole Miss Fans Have Every Right To Be Furious About Week 7
Week 7s SEC slate is packed with the kind of matchups that usually command a full days attention, and instead they all hit the screen at once. Auburn at Georgia, Alabama at Tennessee and Missouri at Ole Miss are all set to kick off simultaneously, which has already left fans and commentators grumbling about how hard it will be to keep up with the conferences biggest games at the same time.
From the Ole Miss side, the frustration is easy to understand because Missouris trip to Oxford was the one drawing the sharpest criticism. A game with that much conference weight feels like it should have been given a bigger national stage, but instead it landed on SEC Network, adding to the sense that the scheduling and TV decisions made this a needlessly messy weekend for viewers. Deuce Alexander Has Become Vital For Ole Miss At The Right Time
Deuce Alexander has gone from a useful part of the Ole Miss offense to the one defenders attention seems to keep circling back to, and the timing could hardly be better for a team still sorting out its identity under new offensive coordinator John David Baker. The senior receiver has already piled up 503 receiving yards and five touchdowns through five games, a surge that reflects both his playmaking ability and the staffs effort to make him a moving target instead of a static one.
Baker has leaned into Alexanders speed by shifting him around the formation and even finding ways to get him the ball out of the backfield, a usage pattern that has helped unlock some big gains. That approach paid off again in the win over Vanderbilt, when Alexander came through with multiple long touchdown receptions and continued to look like the most reliable explosive threat on the roster at a time Ole Miss needs exactly that.
