In a season filled with ups and downs, the Ole Miss Rebels men's basketball team finds itself on the outside looking in as the NIT Tournament field was announced without their name. The Rebels, who wrapped up the season with a 15-20 record, were not granted a spot in the 32-team bracket revealed on March 15.
The next opportunity for postseason play lies in the College Basketball Crown tournament, with its field set to be unveiled on March 16. This represents the last chance for Ole Miss to extend their season.
Despite a spirited run in the SEC Tournament, where they notched three victories as a No. 15 seed, the Rebels' overall performance during the regular season wasn't enough to secure an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Their journey was halted in a thrilling overtime loss to No. 3 Arkansas, 93-90, in the SEC semifinals on March 14.
Had they managed to pull off a win against Arkansas, the Rebels would have advanced to the conference championship game. A victory there would have made them the first team from a high-major conference to snag an NCAA Tournament spot with a sub-.500 record, a feat that would have certainly turned heads.
Looking ahead, Ole Miss coach Chris Beard is already focused on the future, planning to engage with his players in meetings aimed at improving the team's performance next season. His commitment to putting a stronger product on the court is clear, as the Rebels aim to build on the lessons learned from this challenging season.
