Mississippi State wrapped up its 2025 season with a 38-19 loss to rival Ole Miss, closing the book on a tough campaign and officially shifting the focus to what’s shaping up to be a pivotal offseason in Starkville. With Jeff Lebby heading into his third year at the helm, the Bulldogs are staring down a critical stretch - one that will be defined, in large part, by how they navigate the ever-fluid landscape of the transfer portal.
And the first move is already on the board.
Wide receiver Jordan Mosley, a veteran presence in the Bulldogs' locker room, announced Sunday that he plans to enter the transfer portal. It’s a decision that signals both personal recalibration and the start of what could be a busy winter of roster reshuffling for Mississippi State.
Mosley’s journey to this point has been anything but linear. A native of Mobile, Alabama, he began his college career at Northwestern in 2021, where he saw limited action and logged just one catch.
After transferring to Mississippi State, he spent two seasons in a reserve role before finally breaking through in 2024. That year, Mosley emerged as a reliable target, hauling in 23 receptions for 405 yards and three touchdowns - a solid contribution that hinted at his potential in Lebby’s offense.
But 2025 told a different story.
With new talent flooding into the receiver room - including transfers Brenen Thompson and Anthony Evans III - Mosley found himself sliding down the depth chart. His production took a noticeable dip, finishing the season with just 8 catches for 168 yards and one touchdown. And after Mississippi State’s loss to Florida on October 18, Mosley didn’t record another reception.
His decision to enter the portal makes sense in that context. For a player once rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports, the desire for a larger role and a fresh opportunity is understandable. He’s shown flashes of what he can do when given the chance, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him attract attention from programs looking for a veteran receiver with SEC experience and the ability to stretch the field.
For Mississippi State, Mosley’s departure is just the beginning. As the portal officially opens and programs across the country begin reshaping their rosters, the Bulldogs will be looking to reload - not just replace. Year 3 under Lebby is all about momentum, and that starts with how Mississippi State handles the offseason churn.
Expect more moves to come. The portal is open, and the Bulldogs are already in motion.
