Mark Ingram Just Added Fuel To Ole Miss Texas Debate

In a high-stakes SEC clash, former Alabama star Mark Ingram shares his prediction for the Ole Miss vs. Texas game, looking closely at quarterback performances and team dynamics.

Mark Ingram likes Ole Miss to keep the momentum rolling in Saturday night’s showdown with Texas.

The former Alabama star, who has played in plenty of high-profile games himself, weighed in on the No. 7 Rebels’ trip to Austin for a ranked SEC clash against No.

19 Texas. The matchup brings together two of the sport’s biggest quarterback names - Ole Miss’s Trinidad Chambliss and Texas’s Arch Manning - but it also features two teams heading in very different directions.

Ole Miss enters at 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the SEC, carrying a top-10 ranking into one of its biggest tests of the season. Texas, meanwhile, has taken a sharp tumble from No. 1 in the country to No. 19 after back-to-back 27-24 losses to Oklahoma and Florida, both of whom were unranked at the time.

The Horns are 4-2 and trying to stop the slide in primetime Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, while also avoiding a 1-3 start in conference play.

On The Triple Option podcast, Ingram made his choice clear.

“I’m looking at Ole Miss here. Is Ole Miss being slept on?

You know, they might have the best quarterback in the country. Now, they go on the road, a Texas team that was playing desperate.

Life comes at you fast. They were just ranked No. 1, now they lost back-to-back games and the potential to get even worse,” Ingram said.

“Colin Simmons, ankle injury, their best defensive player. This thing could be spiraling out of control.

I think it’s gonna be a close game early.

“I trust this (Ole Miss) offense. I think they’re going to be able to score more points than Texas. And I feel like Ole Miss goes into Texas and wins the game.”

While Ingram backed the Rebels, the Kalshi market has its own read on which team has the edge in what could be a defining win for either side.

Texas Just Lost More Edge Rush Help Before Ole Miss

Texas is heading into its matchup with Ole Miss thinner on the edge than it expected, with defensive end Colin Simmons likely to miss the game because of a high ankle sprain. The Longhorns are also without freshman edge rusher Richard Wesley, who has been ruled out with the same injury and may miss the rest of the regular season.

Wesley had shown some promise in limited work, with seven tackles across four appearances, but now Texas will have to piece together its pass rush without him. For an Ole Miss offense preparing for a major test, the injuries shift even more responsibility onto the other edge players the Longhorns can call on. [Read more 🡒]

Ole Miss Has A Huge Opening In Austin If Its Stars Deliver

Ole Miss heads to Austin with a chance to land the kind of road win that can reshape a season, and the setup looks unusually favorable for the Rebels. Texas is coming off consecutive losses and has been dealing with injuries, which has only sharpened the focus on a handful of Ole Miss players who figure to drive the matchup, from offensive lineman Davis up front to defensive playmaker Perkins and running back Kewan Lacy in the backfield.

The opening is there because Texas has stumbled on both sides of the ball, but Ole Miss still has to take advantage of it. A road game like this rarely hands itself over, and if the Rebels are going to turn a big opportunity into something bigger, their top players will have to match the moment in a setting that could end up defining the rest of the year. Arch Manning Brings New Pressure Into Texas Showdown With Ole Miss

Texas heads into Week 8 carrying more than just the weight of consecutive losses to Oklahoma and Florida. At 4-2, the Longhorns are trying to steady themselves quickly, and Steve Sarkisian said Arch Manning has brought a more edgy edge to practice as the team works through the frustration of back-to-back setbacks.

The timing makes the quarterbacks response especially important with No. 7 Ole Miss next on the schedule. Sarkisian made it clear the focus is not simply on Manning being sharp individually, but on how well he plays alongside his teammates as Texas tries to reset before one of its biggest tests of the season.
