LSUs Charlie Weis Jr Stuns Eagles With Bold Offseason Decision

Despite interest from the NFL, LSUs rising offensive mind is choosing to build something bigger in Baton Rouge.

Charlie Weis Jr. isn’t heading to the NFL just yet.

Despite recent interest from the Philadelphia Eagles, Weis has decided to stay put as LSU’s offensive coordinator, opting to continue building something with Lane Kiffin rather than make the leap to the pros. The Eagles, who are in the midst of finding a replacement for Kevin Patullo after parting ways with him two weeks ago, had reached out to Weis during their search. But after conversations with the organization, Weis informed them he’s committed to LSU moving forward.

Whether those talks were part of a formal interview process or just an exploratory conversation remains unclear. What is clear: Weis isn’t ready to leave the college game behind.

This decision keeps intact one of college football’s more intriguing coaching partnerships. Weis and Kiffin have a long-standing working relationship that dates back to their time at Florida Atlantic, where Weis became one of the youngest offensive coordinators in the country at just 24 years old.

From there, he took a detour to South Florida for two seasons before reuniting with Kiffin at Ole Miss in 2022. When Kiffin made the jump to LSU, Weis followed.

Speaking with On3’s Chris Low, Weis made his intentions plain: “I’m fired up about finishing the job at Ole Miss and the future at LSU.”

That’s a strong signal that Weis sees unfinished business at the college level-whether that’s continuing to develop LSU’s offense into one of the SEC’s most dangerous units, or simply sticking with a system and staff he trusts.

For the Eagles, the search for a new offensive coordinator rolls on. They’re reportedly considering several high-profile names, including Jim Bob Cooter, Matt Nagy, and Brian Daboll. Each brings a different flavor of offensive philosophy, and all have experience either calling plays or working with top-tier quarterbacks.

But Weis, for now, is off the board. And while the NFL door may open again in the future, his focus remains squarely on Baton Rouge and what’s next for the Tigers.
