Lane Kiffin and LSU are at it again, and the latest twist puts Jack Pyburn right in the middle of the SEC’s new fight over roster rules.
After a Louisiana court granted a temporary restraining order that let several former college football players return to college football, LSU moved fast. The ruling included former Tiger edge rusher Jack Pyburn, who had spent Training Camp with the Buccaneers, and that immediately pointed attention toward Baton Rouge.
LSU didn’t stop there. Kiffin and the Tigers also added two former Ole Miss Rebels in Dae'Quan Wright, who was in the Browns ' training camp, and Zxavian Harris, who was signed earlier this offseason and released by the Saints.
That wave of movement triggered a reaction across college football, with each of the Power 4 conferences putting rules in place aimed at keeping teams from adding players who signed professional deals. Even with those penalties hanging out there, LSU doesn’t seem interested in backing off. On Thursday Night, Kiffin and the Tigers reportedly prepared to add Pyburn, a move that makes it clear the threat of punishment isn’t slowing them down.

The Tigers appear to be betting that the courts will come down against the SEC’s attempt to block these players from college football. The wrinkle is that the players are still technically allowed to play; the punishment falls on the schools that choose to roster them.
Pyburn’s path makes him a familiar name in Baton Rouge. He spent his first three seasons at Florida before transferring to LSU for what many believed would be his final college season. Last year, he finished with 51 tackles and a pair of sacks for the Tigers defense.
For now, the bigger story is what happens next in the legal fight. LSU has already shown it’s willing to keep pushing, and after everything that’s happened this offseason, Kiffin could have taken a simpler route by filling out his roster with actual college football players instead of inviting another round of chaos.
