Jackson Suber had himself in the mix at the Open Championship for a while, but the finish didn’t quite hold up. After 54 holes, he was four shots back and tied for sixth with Ludvig Åberg and Bryson DeChambeau, a spot that put him right in the conversation heading into Sunday.
The closing stretch, though, told a different story. The bogeys that showed up late Saturday - two in the final four holes - followed him into the final round, and Suber carded a 74, four over par, to end the week at 2-under overall. That left him in a 12-way tie for 28th, along with a $102,817 paycheck and 30.883 FedEx Cup points.
That result also leaves him 79th in the FedEx Cup standings as of Sunday evening. He’s nine spots outside the Top 70, which means he does not qualify for the St.
Jude Championship in August. A finish inside the Top 70 would lock up his PGA Tour status for 2027.
There’s still time for him to make a push. Suber has three tournaments left over the next three weekends, beginning with the 3M Open in Minneapolis, then the Rocket Classic in Detroit, and finishing with the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro. It’s a grind of a travel schedule - Liverpool, England to Minneapolis, then Detroit, then Greensboro - but that’s the life of a player trying to climb the board.
Even with the rough Sunday, the week wasn’t empty. Suber’s strong 36-hole start gave him something to build on, and he still came away with a respectable finish and some momentum heading into the final stretch. Here’s a list of notable players he beat:
