Former Rebels Are Making NFL Noise And Fighting For More

Rebel players shine in NFL Week 4, with standout contributions overshadowing some setbacks and leaving fans eager for more.

Week 4 around the NFL brought another busy showing from the Rebels, with a few familiar names making noise on both sides of the ball.

DK Metcalf delivered one of those unmistakably DK performances for the Steelers, finishing with five catches for 115 yards in a losing effort. In the same game, Sam Williams made his presence felt against Aaron Rodgers with two hits, a pass deflection and his first sack of the season.

Laquon Treadwell also had a strong day for the Colts, pacing the team with five receptions for 42 yards. Both marks were team highs.

On defense, Wydett Williams Jr. played in just his second game of the year and finished with five total tackles. Walter Nolen III was right there with him, posting four tackles, two for a loss and his first sack of the season.

DJ Jones chipped in for the Broncos with three tackles, a pass deflection and a hit on Brock Purdy.

Tre Harris led the Chargers with 60 receiving yards and even logged a pass attempt.

Princely Umanmielen rounded out the standout list with three tackles, a sack and two QB hits in the Panthers’ win over the Detroit Lions.

Not every Rebel had the same kind of afternoon. The defense carried the week’s headline performances, while Evan Engram and Jonathan Mingo didn’t do much with their targets.

Dawson Knox continues to work with a low target share, and Jordan Watkins was not a factor for the Niners. AJ Brown and De’Zhaun Stribling are set to return, though the bigger question is whether Stribling will get another shot to show his preseason wasn’t a fluke.

Chris Beard Just Gave Ole Miss Fans Another Recruiting Reason To Believe

Chris Beard added another piece to Ole Miss long-term backcourt picture with a commitment from Texas-based shooting guard Paxton Ivy in the 2027 recruiting class. Ivy, who moved back to Dallas for his senior season, brings the kind of profile Beard and his staff have tended to value: outside shooting, a feel for the game and the basketball IQ to fit into a system that asks guards to make quick, smart decisions.

For a program that is already looking ahead to the 2026-27 season, which begins Nov. 2, it is another sign that the recruiting momentum is not slowing down. Ole Miss also has an exhibition against Alabama on Oct. 15, a useful early test as Beard continues building toward the future while keeping the current roster on track. [Read more 🡒]

Ole Miss Has A Quarterback Drawing Rare Praise From Herbstreit

Kirk Herbstreit spent part of ESPNs college football conversation this week making an unusually bold case for Trinidad Chambliss, the Ole Miss quarterback whose rise has turned heads well beyond Oxford. Even with Alabamas Keelon Russell fresh off a strong performance, Herbstreit singled out Chambliss as the passer he would take above every other quarterback in the sport, and Joey Galloway joined in the discussion by pointing to the traits that have made Chambliss such a tough player to ignore.

For Ole Miss, the praise only adds to the intrigue around a quarterback who has already forced his way into the national conversation while working through his sixth year of eligibility granted by a court injunction. Chambliss has produced strong passing and rushing numbers through four games, and the bigger question now is how his game translates down the line, especially with his height mentioned as a possible NFL limitation. Ole Miss Faces One Vanderbilt Question That Could Shape This Road Trip

Ole Miss comes out of the bye week looking to steady itself after the loss to Florida, and the road trip to Vanderbilt gives the Rebels a chance to reset in a setting that can still turn tricky if they let it. The Commodores have had their own ups and downs, but the matchup is shaped as much by roster churn as by recent results, with both sides trying to sort out what they really have heading into the next stretch.

One of the biggest variables is Vanderbilts passing game, where wide receiver Junior Sherrill and quarterback Jared Curtis are both dealing with injury uncertainty. For Ole Miss, that creates a game-plan wrinkle that could determine how aggressive the Rebels need to be on defense and how much pressure they can put on a team already searching for stability.
