Oklahoma State's football program has snagged a standout prospect from the transfer portal, and fans should be excited. Wyatt Young, a dynamic receiver from North Texas, is making waves in Stillwater.
Hailing from Katy, Texas, Young's impressive sophomore season in 2025 saw him earn First Team All-American Conference honors. With 1,209 receiving yards on 63 catches, he not only set personal records but also ranked third nationally in the FBS for receiving yards.
His performance put him fifth in receiving yards per game and tenth in touchdown receptions.
Young isn't making the move alone. He's part of a trio, alongside quarterback Drew Mestemaker and running back Caleb Hawkins, following head coach Eric Morris to Oklahoma State. Young was rated as the No. 68 overall prospect in the transfer portal and the No. 17 receiver, a testament to his skill and potential impact.
After the first practice, Coach Morris shared his excitement about Young's development. "Wyatt had a great day today," Morris noted.
"His jump from year one to year two was huge. He's really mastering route running and manipulating defenders."
On the field, Young showed his prowess with some impressive catches, already building a strong connection with Mestemaker. This chemistry is expected to grow as spring practices continue.
Speaking to the media, Young expressed his enthusiasm about the new environment. He noted the higher caliber of players and the increased intensity at Oklahoma State.
"The energy is incredible," Young said. "Everyone's about Cowboy football, and I loved the energy at practice."
Familiarity is key for Young, who feels comfortable with the coaching staff and teammates. "It's very familiar," he shared. "Knowing the type of people they are and the type of people I want to be around makes it easy."
When asked about his drive as a competitor, Young emphasized his commitment to reaching his full potential. "The sky's the limit," he said. "But if you're not working towards it, you'll never reach your highest potential."
Reflecting on his transition from a high school quarterback to a top receiver, Young highlighted his growth. "The biggest growth was from freshman to sophomore year," he explained. "Learning to run routes and find space made all the difference."
Looking back at 2025, Young described it as an amazing year. "The team compatibility was great," he recalled. "There's no better offense to be in as a receiver."
With Young's talent and determination, Oklahoma State fans have plenty to look forward to this season.
