Oklahoma State’s first Big 12 availability report for Saturday’s trip to West Virginia brought a few familiar names, one unexpected addition and no one officially ruled out for the Cowboys.
That matters because once league play starts, the injury picture has to be disclosed a little differently. Both schools turned in their initial reports ahead of the game in Morgantown, and for OSU the headline is simple: nobody on the Cowboys’ available players list has been labeled out for Saturday.
There is, of course, one major absence already baked in. Offensive tackle Jacob Sexton is out for the season. But in terms of this week’s report, the Cowboys avoided a worst-case start.
The most interesting Oklahoma State name on the list is Nelson, who is still working back from knee surgery and showed up as questionable. That’s notable because Eric Morris said a couple of weeks ago the Cowboys were aiming for Nelson to be ready for the Oct. 10 game against UCF. Being listed this way could mean he’s ahead of schedule, even if he still isn’t quite ready to go.
Barnes also landed on the report after suffering a shoulder injury against Oregon, and his probable designation points toward a return if things keep trending the way Morris suggested earlier this week.
Dickson was the surprise. He has played all three games this season and had not previously been mentioned as injured, so his appearance on the report stands out. Rigsby, meanwhile, has missed the last two games, so seeing him listed is at least a positive sign.
Hanson and Oates both sat out the Murray State game after getting hurt in the Oregon game, and Morris said earlier this week that both were moving in the right direction.
For West Virginia, the biggest concern in the report is at running back depth. Cam Cook is the Mountaineers’ primary back, but they can’t really afford to lose him with one back already out and another listed as questionable.
Bray, West Virginia’s second-leading receiver, has six catches for 96 yards. If he can’t go or is limited, that would be another depth hit for the Mountaineers.
Wiley is listed as out and has three tackles this season.
