Oregon gets one more non-conference night at Autzen Stadium before the Big Ten grind begins, and the Ducks are expected to handle Portland State in a big way. DraftKings Sportsbook has Dan Lanning’s team installed as a 57.5-point favorite for Friday’s game, the final warmup before Oregon heads to Los Angeles next week.
The Ducks are trying to use this one for more than just a lopsided win. At 1-1 after a narrow escape against Boise State and an upset loss to Oklahoma State, Oregon still has some clean-up work to do. Friday offers a chance to sharpen things up and get a few key contributors rolling again against a Portland State team that has yet to win, sitting at 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the Big Sky.
One of the biggest boxes to check is on the ground. Oregon has not had an individual 100-yard rushing performance yet this season, but that changes here.
Both Jordon Davison and Hill are projected to break through against a Portland State defense that has had real trouble stopping the run. The Vikings have given up 615 rushing yards, 205 per game, while allowing 5.7 yards per carry and eight rushing touchdowns.
North Dakota did the heaviest damage, piling up 291 yards and two rushing scores on 39 carries.
That kind of vulnerability lines up with what Oregon did the last time these teams met. In the Ducks’ 81-7 win over Portland State in 2023, they ran for 348 yards and six touchdowns.
Davison, who had back-to-back 100-yard games against Rutgers and Wisconsin in 2025, is expected to add another. Hill is still chasing his first 100-yard game, with his best effort coming last year against Northwestern when he finished with 94.
The Ducks also have a milestone waiting for Matayo Uiagalelei. The outside linebacker comes into Friday with 19.5 career sacks, putting him just a half-sack away from becoming the seventh player in program history to reach 20.
The prediction here is that he gets there against Portland State in a big way, finishing with multiple sacks against quarterback Gabe Downing. It would be the fourth two-sack game of Uiagalelei’s career, and it would come against the same opponent he faced in his career debut in 2023, when he logged three tackles.
Another defensive playmaker is also lined up for a splash moment. Devon Jackson delivered one of Oregon’s biggest highlights in the 39-31 loss at Oklahoma State when he intercepted a tipped Drew Mestemaker pass and returned it 96 yards for a touchdown, the Ducks’ longest interception return since 2017. Oregon has two interceptions this season, and both have come from linebackers, with Uiagalelei also grabbing a tipped pass against Oklahoma State.
Now the prediction is that another Ducks defender adds to that turnover production. Brandon Finney Jr. and safety Koi Perich each already have a career pick-six, and one of them is projected to make Downing and Portland State pay on Friday with the second pick-six of his career. That would also fit with a defense that leads the Big Ten with 12 pass breakups.
However the scoreboard looks, this is Oregon’s last chance to build momentum before Big Ten play begins. The margin is expected to be wide, but the Ducks still have a few things to prove before the real test arrives.
