Oklahoma State’s Homecoming weekend is getting an extra dose of basketball this fall, with the Cowboys set to host Tulsa in a preseason exhibition at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The in-state matchup is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, slotting in before Oklahoma State’s annual Walkaround festivities later that evening.
It’s one piece of a three-game Division I exhibition slate for the Cowboys, who will also open preseason play against New Mexico in Stillwater on Sunday, Oct. 11, then close it out at Wisconsin on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Tip times for the New Mexico and Wisconsin games have not yet been announced.
The expanded schedule is tied to an NCAA rule change that now allows teams to play as many as three exhibitions against Division I opponents, up from two in previous seasons.
The Oct. 11 game against New Mexico sets up a packed weekend in Stillwater. Former Oklahoma State standout Tony Allen is scheduled to be inducted into the OSU Athletics Hall of Honor on Friday, then the Cowboys football team hosts UCF on Saturday.
That New Mexico matchup will be the Lobos’ first trip to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State, and it also opens a home-and-home preseason series. The Cowboys are slated to play in Albuquerque next year, and the teams last met in 2011.
New Mexico enters the exhibition after a 26-win season that ended in the NIT semifinals, and it brings back the core of its backcourt.
Tulsa comes in with plenty of its own momentum. The Golden Hurricane won 30 games last season and advanced to the NIT championship game. They’ll also arrive with a heavily changed roster, featuring nine newcomers as they begin the 2026-27 season.
Oklahoma State’s trip to Wisconsin will be only the second meeting between the schools. Their lone previous matchup came in a holiday tournament in Dayton in 1983. The two programs are also scheduled to meet in preseason exhibitions over each of the next two years.
Wisconsin has been a regular NCAA Tournament team under Greg Gard, reaching the field eight times in 11 seasons and making the last three straight.

David Taylor is still setting the table for Oklahoma States biggest matches while the Cowboys get ready for a busy stretch to open the season. The first-year head coach said the program is prepared for any Penn State meeting whenever the Nittany Lions want it, and Oklahoma State is even leaving one date open each year in case the heavyweight showdown ever gets on the schedule. He also offered a few timely updates, including the Cowboys season-opening tournament on Nov. 1, the added year of eligibility for heavyweight Konner Doucet and a lower-bowl season-ticket sellout at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
There is also plenty happening beyond the headline rivalry chatter. Landon Robideau and Dreshaun Ross have qualified for the U20 World Championships in Slovakia, giving the Cowboys more international representation as the new season approaches. Still, the Penn State angle is the one that hangs over Taylors comments, especially with Oklahoma State looking to keep pushing for marquee duals that would carry real weight for the program and its fans. Caleb Hawkins Faces A New Oklahoma State Question This Fall
Caleb Hawkins came into Oklahoma State media day with a rsum that already turns heads, even before he takes a snap for the Cowboys. The running back set the FBS freshman touchdown record at North Texas, and now he is settling into a new role in Stillwater with a coaching staff that sounds intent on protecting him as much as featuring him.
Head coach Eric Morris said Hawkins carried a heavy load last season, and Oklahoma State has since brought in additional running backs to help spread the work around. The plan is to use a deeper, more varied backfield to keep Hawkins fresher and create better matchup opportunities, which could change the shape of his numbers even if it helps the Cowboys as a whole.
