Oklahoma State’s recruiting push for the 2027 class has taken another step, and this one points directly at the secondary.
The Cowboys recently extended an offer to Pitt commit Jordan Young, a 6-2, 180-pound cornerback from Lakeland High School in Lakeland, Fla. Young is listed by 247 Sports as a three-star prospect, the No. 74 cornerback nationally and the No. 76 player in Florida. He announced the offer from Oklahoma State on Monday on social media, and per 247 Sports, it was his most recent offer and his first since Delaware offered him a scholarship in May.
Young has already taken an official visit to Pittsburgh in May and committed shortly after, but Oklahoma State clearly sees him as a player worth chasing. The timing fits what head coach Eric Morris said after the Cowboys’ surprising win over Oregon two weeks ago: that the program needed to use the momentum not only to build toward the Class of 2028, but also to catch up in the Class of 2027, where he felt the Cowboys were behind.
With 12 players already committed and more scholarships still available, Morris has room to keep pressing for uncommitted targets and to explore flip candidates. Young fits that bill.
The need is there, too. Looking at Oklahoma State’s current two-deep, the Cowboys have two redshirt seniors at cornerback in Trudell Berry and Mo Horn. That leaves Morris and defensive coordinator Skyler Cassity searching for pieces who can step in when those veterans are gone.
So far, Oklahoma State does not have a dedicated cornerback committed in the class, which makes Young an especially interesting target. The only other secondary commitments are Broken Bow (Okla.) defensive back Bryson Brown and Trinity (Euless, Texas) High School safety Chayce Davis. The rest of the defensive haul includes Choctaw (Okla.) linebacker Israel Hammons and Baton Rouge Catholic (Baton Rouge, La.) edge rusher Jayden Vessell.
The offer also comes at a time when Oklahoma State has some real on-field momentum. The Cowboys are riding their first winning streak since opening the 2024 season 3-0, and the Oregon win gives them a Top 25 result to lean on. They head into Saturday’s game against West Virginia trying to snap an 18-game Big 12 Conference losing streak.
A road win and the upcoming bye week would give Young time to sort through his options before early signing day in December. It would also give Oklahoma State another chance to sell recruits on a program it believes is trending upward after back-to-back losing seasons.
