Oklahoma State Faces A Frustrating Wait As Big 12 Hopes Hang On

The Big 12 Conference keeps Oklahoma State and Texas Tech in suspense as crucial Week 11 kickoff details hinge on the outcomes of other pivotal matches, leaving both teams strategizing for a narrow path to the championship game.

Oklahoma State’s next home date is going to stay in limbo a little longer.

The Big 12 announced Monday that the Cowboys’ Nov. 14 matchup with Texas Tech will be held on a six-day window, meaning the kickoff time and TV network won’t be set until after Saturday’s final league game ends. Texas Tech closes the weekend by hosting West Virginia at 8:30 p.m. central time, so Oklahoma State and the Red Raiders will have to wait until then for their slot.

The game lands in Oklahoma State’s next-to-last home contest of the 2026 season, and it comes with both teams still in the mix near the top of the league race. Texas Tech enters at 7-1 overall and 4-1 in Big 12 play, while the Cowboys are 5-3 and 3-2.

Oklahoma State is coming off a brutal 51-49 loss to Iowa State on Saturday, a game in which the defense had trouble all night and the Cyclones finished it with a game-winning field goal in the final seconds. That result dropped the Cowboys into a four-way tie for third place in the Big 12 with Arizona, Houston and Baylor.

That group still has work to do if it wants any real shot at the Big 12 Championship game. Only the top two teams make it, and all four of those teams would need a lot of help along with wins in their remaining four games to stay alive.

At the top of the standings, Utah remains the conference’s only unbeaten team at 5-0 with four league games left. The Utes play BYU on Saturday, and the Cougars have just one loss. Even if BYU wins, that would only create a tie for first place, and both teams would still have a path to the title game.

Texas Tech is tied with BYU at one conference loss after falling to Cincinnati two weeks ago. The Red Raiders don’t have as direct a route as BYU or Utah since they don’t play either of those teams, but they’re still in better shape than the teams sitting with two losses.

For Oklahoma State, the math gets ugly fast. The Cowboys would need Utah to lose twice, while both BYU and Texas Tech would have to drop at least one more game.

And if the Cowboys are going to use this matchup to help their own case, that Texas Tech loss would need to come in Stillwater so Oklahoma State can secure the tiebreaker. Even then, Oklahoma State would likely need Houston to lose again because of the head-to-head loss to the Cougars.

At this point, the path is there on paper, but it’s a long shot to call it realistic.

Oklahoma State Just Turned Its Lineup Fight Into Must-Watch Drama

Oklahoma State turned its first Cowboy Invitational at Gallagher-Iba Arena into an early-season showcase for the kind of lineup battles that can define a wrestling year. With starting spots still up for grabs ahead of the opener, the event gave the Cowboys a chance to sort through a crowded room, and they responded by collecting nine titles while several brackets were shaped by injuries and a few tight calls.

The most revealing moments came in the weight classes where the race for the lineup looks especially sharp, with Casey Swiderski and Dee Lockett pushing each other deep into a tense 165-pound final. Oklahoma State Opens With Pressure As New-Look Cowgirls Face Early Test

The Cowgirls open their season at Gallagher-Iba Arena against Southern University, and it is the kind of early test that can tell a lot about where a retooled Oklahoma State team stands before Big 12 play arrives. After an offseason filled with notable player additions and raised expectations, the non-conference slate starts with an opponent that brings real credibility of its own.

Southern is coming in with NCAA Tournament experience and a rsum built on multiple SWAC titles, so this is not a soft landing for a team trying to find its identity quickly. Oklahoma State will also have to sort out how it wants to attack offensively, with Ashley Jo Crooks expected to be a central piece of the plan as the Cowgirls try to make an immediate statement in front of their home crowd.
