Oklahoma State Coach Shares Clear Plan For Special Teams

Drew Svoboda discusses his transition to Oklahoma State, focusing on transforming special teams and tight ends amid a wave of new talent.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are gearing up for a new era under head coach Eric Morris, and the coaching staff is largely composed of familiar faces from North Texas. Among the latest additions is Drew Svoboda, a seasoned coach who brings a wealth of experience from his time at Alabama and, most recently, North Texas.

Svoboda's journey to Stillwater became official after he led the Mean Green to a bowl game victory over San Diego State as interim head coach. Now, he's diving into his responsibilities with the Cowboys, focusing on special teams and tight ends.

In just three months, Svoboda has embraced his role, overseeing the integration of nine new players through the transfer portal. His Texas roots and extensive coaching background make him a valuable asset to the team.

Svoboda recently shared insights from the first practice after spring break, highlighting the challenges and opportunities of working with a roster that includes 81 new players. "It's just a typical spring," he remarked, emphasizing the importance of understanding each player's capabilities, especially on special teams where every player is involved.

The focus is on getting the right people in the right roles and starting the development process. As the team works to implement their schemes, the primary goal is to assess what each player can contribute and their learning capacity across various phases of the game.

With Svoboda's leadership, the Cowboys are poised to make significant strides, leveraging the fresh talent and experience brought in during this transformative phase.
