Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris had another armadillo problem on his hands, and this time the timing fit right in with a big Saturday celebration.
After the Cowboys’ 39-31 win against No. 6 Oregon, Morris said a second armadillo showed up at his house while family was gathered there to celebrate. He shared the story Tuesday on Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take podcast.
“Ironically, I had a lot of people, family, in town, 50-plus and everybody come over to the house to celebrate,” Morris said. “One of my nephews, 16 years old, we were up about to go to bed at 12 and he said, ‘I wonder if there’s another armadillo out there.’ And lo and behold there was Saturday night and so we got one more.”
Morris said he used “a nice little AR that’s a good match for the armadillo” to deal with it.
The first armadillo incident made headlines in August, when Morris said he shot one that was tearing up his yard. He also sent an apology text to his neighbors after the gunshot.
Morris explained that he initially assumed the damage on his property came from a wild hog, since that’s what he’s used to in Shallowater, Texas.
“It was getting after my yard pretty good,” Morris said. “I'm from Texas and usually wild hogs is kind of what roots everything up.
I thought it was a wild hog, I just had no clue. My yard guy, I called him and asked him if I had a hog problem.
He started laughing and said 'No you got a bad armadillo problem.'”
For now, at least, Morris says the issue is a little more under control.
