Vikings Stun Fans by Signing Kyler Murray After Cardinals Release

The Minnesota Vikings make a surprising move by signing seasoned quarterback Kyler Murray, bringing experience and potential to bolster their roster.

Kyler Murray, the electrifying quarterback and former Heisman Trophy winner, is making a fresh start with the Minnesota Vikings. After dazzling at Oklahoma and earning college football's top honor in 2018, Murray's NFL journey takes an intriguing turn as he joins the Vikings for the league minimum. This move comes after his release from the Arizona Cardinals, who still owe him a hefty $36.8 million from a 2022 contract.

In recent seasons, Murray has faced challenges with injuries, managing to start more than 11 games just once over the past four years. Last season was particularly tough, with Murray limited to five starts, amassing 962 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions. Yet, at just 29, he brings a wealth of experience and two Pro Bowl selections to Minnesota.

Murray expressed his excitement, stating, "I'm just grateful for the opportunity. I look forward to coming in and competing."

And compete he must. The Vikings have invested in young talent, drafting JJ McCarthy as the 10th overall pick in 2024.

McCarthy showed promise with a 6-4 record in his 10 starts last season, but his 12 interceptions to 11 touchdowns left room for improvement, contributing to the Vikings missing the playoffs.

During his tenure with the Cardinals, Murray experienced playoff action only once, with Arizona finishing a disappointing 3-14 last year. Despite the team's struggles, Murray was responsible for two of those wins before a foot injury sidelined him.

Murray's career stats with the Cardinals are impressive, ranking third in franchise history with 20,460 passing yards, 121 passing touchdowns, 3,193 rushing yards, and 32 rushing touchdowns. His dynamic playmaking ability and fresh start with the Vikings offer a compelling storyline as the new season approaches.
