The Oklahoma Sooners kicked off their 2026 spring practice with a burst of energy at the Everest Training Center. Head Coach Brent Venables was all smiles as he reflected on the team's first day back, noting the seamless integration of new players and the competitive spirit running through the squad.
"We're seeing a lot of promise," Venables said. "The new guys are fitting right in, and the team's mindset is as tough as it gets. This spring, we're focused on elevating everyone’s game - from the rookies to our seasoned veterans."
The roster is buzzing with fresh talent this year, featuring 40 newcomers. This includes 22 high school mid-year enrollees and 18 transfers, with 23 offensive players, 16 on defense, and one special teams player joining the ranks.
The offensive transfers bring a wealth of experience, boasting 260 games played and 122 starts among them. On the defensive side, five transfers contribute a solid 89 games played and 22 starts.
Overall, the Sooners have a combined 265 career starts on offense and 129 on defense. Not to be overlooked, Oklahoma returns its standout special teams unit, including Lou Groza Award-winning kicker Tate Sandell, along with punter Grayson Miller, long snapper Ben Anderson, and holder Jacob Ulrich.
Coming off a strong 10-3 season, with a 6-2 record in the SEC and a return to the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2019, the Sooners are poised to build on their success.
