Four-Star WR Zerek Sidney Commits to Washington, Passing on Oklahoma and Arizona State
In a recruiting twist that few saw coming, four-star wide receiver Zerek Sidney has committed to Washington, choosing the Huskies over Oklahoma and his in-state option, Arizona State. The decision came Thursday, capping off a recruitment that saw some late movement - and a surprise closer.
Sidney, a 6-foot playmaker out of Desert Edge High School in Arizona, had previously narrowed his list to five schools, eliminating USC and Notre Dame before settling on a final trio. While Oklahoma and ASU had been considered strong contenders, it was Washington that made the late push count, visiting Sidney just two days before his announcement.
Sidney’s recruitment had been relatively quiet in recent months, especially from the Oklahoma side. The Sooners hosted him back on September 6 - a visit that coincided with their win over Michigan - but didn’t appear to prioritize him down the stretch. Instead, Brent Venables and his staff have been focused on other targets, including a recent trip to Los Angeles to check in on fellow 2027 four-star receiver Quentin Hale.
Meanwhile, Arizona State had the benefit of geography. Sidney visited the Sun Devils twice in the fall, most recently on November 28. Being less than an hour from campus, ASU had the home-field advantage, but in the end, it wasn’t enough.
Washington, on the other hand, played the long game. Sidney took an unofficial visit to Seattle back on September 27. That trip, paired with the late in-home visit this week, seems to have sealed the deal for the Huskies.
Sidney’s talent is clear, even if his junior year stats don’t pop off the page. He missed most of the season due to injury, logging just 11 catches for 111 yards and a touchdown in four games.
But his sophomore campaign in 2024 told a different story - 45 receptions, 591 yards, and 11 touchdowns across 12 games as Desert Edge captured a state title. If he stays healthy for a full senior season, expect his stock to rise.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Sidney is the No. 46 wide receiver in the 2027 class and the No. 6 overall prospect in Arizona. He brings crisp route running, reliable hands, and a competitive edge that should translate well to the next level.
As for Oklahoma, the Sooners are still in strong shape at the position. They’ve already secured commitments from four-star Demare Dezeurn out of California and three-star Tra’Von Hall from Alabama. And with the staff pushing hard for Quentin Hale, Sidney’s decision isn’t a major blow to what’s shaping up to be one of the best 2027 classes in the country.
Still, Washington’s ability to swoop in late and land a top-50 receiver speaks volumes about their recruiting momentum. For Sidney, it’s a fresh start in a program that clearly made him a priority. And for the Huskies, it’s a win that could pay off big once he’s fully healthy and back to his playmaking ways.
