The family of Oklahoma quarterback legend Jamelle Holieway is asking for prayers as he deals with a health issue, and the message from one loved one was blunt: “he needs us.”
Wallis Marsh took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to rally support for Holieway, writing, “Sooners please Pray for Jamelle Holieway. #4 Needs us,”
The response from college football fans came quickly. One wrote, “🙏🙏up Wallis we loved covering his teams which included my longtime partner,” while another said, “Praying for Jamelle!
Forever grateful he gave my dad one of his best memories as an @OU_Football fan. I have this picture framed in my office,”
Another fan added, “I don’t know the details but trust your word. We’ll be Praying for Jamelle going forward and hope/wish the best for him always,”
Holieway, who led the Sooners to a national championship in 1985, was a two-time All-Big Eight performer and the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year in 1986. He later spent two seasons in the NFL with the Raiders before playing in the Canadian Football League from 1991 until 1992.
Holieway addressed his condition on Facebook, telling supporters, “I am home, I am resting, and most importantly, I am on the road to recovery,”
He also thanked the people who reached out while he was hospitalized. “I want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who reached out to me and my family while I was in the hospital.
The phone calls, text messages, visits, words of encouragement, good thoughts, and most of all, your prayers meant more to me than I could ever fully express. “When you are going through a health challenge, you quickly realize how blessed you are by the people God has placed in your life.
I felt your love and support every single day, and I want each of you to know how much it lifted my spirits.”
He closed by expressing gratitude for the Oklahoma community around him. “Sooner Nation has always been a family, and I have never been more grateful to be part of it.
I am getting stronger every day. I am resting, following doctor’s orders, and looking forward to getting back to being myself very soon,”
