OU Football Moves 2027 SMU Game to Massive New Venue

OU and SMUs upcoming 2027 clash is heading to a bigger stage, marking another high-profile tilt at a familiar venue for the Sooners.

Oklahoma and SMU are taking their 2027 showdown to a bigger stage - and a familiar one for the Sooners.

The two programs have agreed to move their scheduled matchup from SMU’s on-campus Gerald Ford Stadium to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas - the home of the Dallas Cowboys and a venue OU fans know well. The game is set for September 11, 2027.

For Oklahoma, this won’t just be another trip to Jerry World - it’ll be their ninth appearance at the stadium, and they’ve made themselves right at home there. The Sooners are 6-2 all-time in Arlington and have rattled off five straight wins at the venue, a run that includes some high-stakes Big 12 Championship moments. While the conference landscape will look different by 2027, the Sooners’ comfort level in Arlington remains a real factor.

OU athletic director Joe Castiglione emphasized the move was about access and atmosphere: “We were happy to work with SMU and AT&T Stadium to make this happen, as it will allow more fans of both programs to attend and cheer in person.”

That’s not just lip service. Gerald Ford Stadium seats roughly 32,000, while AT&T Stadium can hold over 80,000 fans - and even more with standing room. This move turns a solid non-conference game into a marquee event in a pro-level setting, giving both programs a bigger spotlight and their fans a better shot at being part of it.

For SMU, it’s an opportunity to showcase the program on a grand stage, especially as the Mustangs continue to build momentum on the national scene. For Oklahoma, it’s another chance to flex in a building where they’ve played some of their best football.

Circle the date - September 11, 2027. Two Texas-based fanbases, one NFL stadium, and a game that’s shaping up to be more than just a regular non-conference clash.
