Oklahoma’s push into Alabama keeps showing up on the recruiting trail, and the latest signal points to another name in the Sooners’ favor.
Sooner Scoop recruiting editor Josh McCuistion entered a prediction earlier this week for OU to land Class of 2028 wide receiver Dedrick Kimbrough, a 6-3, 180-pound prospect from Thompson High School in Alabaster, AL.
Kimbrough is a consensus 4-star recruit, and 247Sports’ composite rankings list him as the No. 196 overall player, the No. 29 wide receiver and the No. 10 player in Alabama in the Class of 2028.
His production already matches the hype. As a sophomore, Kimbrough hauled in 43 catches for 686 yards and five touchdowns. That came after a freshman season in which he totaled 22 receptions for 390 yards and three scores.
Oklahoma is far from alone in the chase. Kimbrough already holds offers from Alabama, Oregon, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Florida, Tennessee and Auburn.
He also made the rounds in 2025 with a camp stop at Vanderbilt and a gameday visit to Ole Miss in the fall. In 2026, he’s taken unofficial visits to Alabama, Texas A&M and Notre Dame.
The Sooners’ connection to Alabama has been building across multiple classes. In the 2027 cycle, Oklahoma already has commitments from quarterback Jamison Roberts and safety Jaylen Scott, both from the state. The program also previously landed Tuscaloosa wideout Tra’Von Hall before he flipped from OU to Ole Miss in June.
Oklahoma has continued to work that same pipeline in the 2028 class, with offers out to edge rusher Keoni Snipes and offensive linemen Joey Fleming and Samuel Bailey.
Scott, a consensus 4-star recruit from Mobile, AL, has said he wants to help bring more players from his home state to Norman and create more “Bama Sooners.”
At the moment, Oklahoma’s lone commitment in the Class of 2028 is quarterback Trey Tagliaferri of New Jersey. The 3-star prospect threw for 2,215 yards, 29 touchdowns and three interceptions as a sophomore at Bergen Catholic in 2025.

A new NCAA eligibility ruling has created a quirky late-summer possibility for a handful of former Oklahoma players, even if the odds of seeing any of them back in college are slim.
