Oklahomas 2028 Recruiting Push Is Starting To Feel Very Real

With Oklahoma building strong ties in high school recruiting, the Sooners are gaining traction with top 2028 prospects, positioning themselves as a formidable force in future seasons.

Oklahoma’s 2028 recruiting board is starting to take shape, and the Sooners are showing up in some heavyweight conversations.

One of the biggest names tied to OU is offensive lineman Malakhi Dudley, a Conyers, Ga., product at Heritage High School who is heading into his junior year with a trimmed list of eight schools. Oklahoma made the cut alongside Georgia, Miami, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Florida and Georgia Tech.

Dudley checks in at 6-5 and 300 pounds, and the industry views him as a consensus 4-star prospect. In 247Sports’ composite rankings for the Class of 2028, he sits at No. 168 overall.

Before his sophomore season in 2025, he was named a MaxPreps Preseason Sophomore All-American. He also picked up offers from USC, Nebraska, Arizona State, Florida State and Auburn, though none of those programs made his top eight.

Dudley has not taken an unofficial visit to Norman yet, but with Oklahoma still alive in his recruitment, a fall game-day trip is very much in play.

The Sooners also landed a fresh addition to their 2028 target list on Saturday when Cache, Okla., standout Kenyon Sweat said he received an offer from OU. Sweat, a 6-0, 173-pound prospect, is a consensus 3-star recruit and the No. 6 player in Oklahoma in 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Sweat’s offer sheet is still short, but it already includes six Division I programs: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Iowa State and UConn. He spent part of the summer on unofficial visits to Texas Tech and Tennessee, and he also worked out at the Red Raiders’ camp in Lubbock.

Parker Thune of Sooner Scoop reported that Sweat is set to visit Norman for Oklahoma’s Sept. 19 game against New Mexico.

"It would be special to stay home, you know?"

Another class of 2028 name linked to Oklahoma is wide receiver Dedrick Kimbrough, with Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong logging a prediction for the Sooners to land the Thompson High School standout from Alabaster, Ala. Oklahoma has started to build traction in Alabama, and Kimbrough fits right into that pattern.

Kimbrough is listed at 6-3 and 180 pounds, and every major recruiting network has him pegged as a 4-star. 247Sports’ composite rankings place him at No. 196 nationally in the Class of 2028. As a sophomore at Thompson in 2025, he hauled in 43 catches for 686 yards and five touchdowns.

His offer list is deep, with Alabama, Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas A&M, Florida, Notre Dame, Miami and Oregon among the programs already in the mix.

Oklahoma Rookies Gave Sooners Fans Plenty To Talk About In Week 1

Week 1 of the NFL preseason gave Oklahoma fans an early look at how a wave of former Sooners is settling into the pro game. R Mason Thomas, the Chiefs second-round pick, jumped right into the action in his debut with two assisted tackles, a quarterback hit and a pass breakup, while other Oklahoma draftees such as Gracen Halton, Febechi Nwaiwu, Robert Spears-Jennings, Kendal Daniels and Deion Burks also got their first preseason chances.

Jaren Kanak was among the Sooners whose preseason opener carried more weight than a routine August outing, and his day ended with a setback that changes the path ahead. Even beyond the draft class, Oklahomas footprint was felt with undrafted Marvin Jones Jr. seeing work for the Seahawks and Jaydn Ott getting into a Chiefs preseason game, a reminder that the Sooners pipeline into the league is already producing plenty of storylines to track. Heath Ozaeta Gives Oklahoma O Line Stability At A Crucial Time

Oklahomas offensive line has quietly become one of the more interesting parts of its roster heading toward 2026, and a big reason is the steadiness Heath Ozaeta has provided. Entering his fourth year, Ozaeta has remained a presence for a group that now includes Michael Fasusi, Ryan Fodje and Eddy Pierre-Louis, with the Sooners also adding transfer EMarion Harris and keeping center Jake Maikkula after his strong showing last season.

Even with a reduced role in 2025, Ozaeta has stayed in the mix as a leader while younger players continue pushing for starting jobs, giving Oklahoma a level of depth it did not always have up front. For a line trying to balance continuity with a wave of new options, that matters, and it leaves the Sooners with several possible answers as they sort out how the group should look when the next season arrives. Cole Sullivan Is Giving Oklahoma Fans Real Hope At Linebacker

Cole Sullivan arrived at Oklahoma with the kind of resume that makes spring practice worth watching, and early signs suggest the transfer linebacker from Michigan is settling in nicely. In Brent Venables defense, learning the system is always part of the test, but Sullivan has apparently handled that part well enough to earn steady praise from coaches and teammates alike as camp has gone on.

Venables has already singled out Sullivan for a good spring, which matters because Oklahoma is looking for linebacker play that can hold up once the real bullets start flying. The bigger question now is whether Sullivan can keep stacking those clean days together, because in a defense built on trust and precision, one strong camp only counts for so much if the consistency does not follow into the fall.
