Kamieon Compton-Nero’s recruitment is still wide open, but Oklahoma remains right in the middle of it.
On Friday, the Owasso standout trimmed his list to 15 schools, and the Sooners made the cut along with Oklahoma State, LSU, Missouri, Florida, Oregon, Michigan, Alabama, Texas A&M, SMU, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, Kansas State and Tennessee. Even with OU in the mix, the update made it clear this is not a decision coming anytime soon. Compton-Nero said he is still early in the process of narrowing things down and won’t sign until next December.

The 247Sports Composite ranks Compton-Nero as the top athlete in the 2028 class and the No. 48 overall prospect. He’s also the top player in Oklahoma, and he now does his high school work at Owasso after transferring from Rejoice Christian School ahead of his junior season.
Last year at Rejoice Christian, Compton-Nero played quarterback and defensive back and put up eye-popping numbers. He piled up 3,335 yards of offense and 49 touchdowns while helping the Eagles win their second straight state title.
On defense, he added 95 tackles and five interceptions, and three of those picks went back for touchdowns. For Oklahoma, the expectation is that he would end up at safety.
The Sooners have been tracking him for a while. OU offered him last summer and has since brought him to Norman five times for unofficial visits, according to Rivals. Ole Miss is the next closest school in that category with four trips.
That kind of early attention, combined with the obvious in-state connection, has kept Oklahoma positioned as the team to beat. Rivals currently gives the Sooners an 82.8% chance to land him, and national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman also logged a Crystal Ball Prediction for OU just two weeks ago.
For a while, it looked like Compton-Nero could end up in Oklahoma’s 2028 class sooner rather than later. Right now, though, his latest move suggests he’s going to keep working through the process and likely take multiple game-day visits this fall before making anything official. That’s not exactly a surprise for a player with this kind of profile, but it does mean the Sooners will have to wait a bit longer.
Even so, there’s no real reason to think Oklahoma has slipped from the front of the pack. If anything, this feels more like a timing issue than a shift in the race. The Sooners still look like the team to watch.

Oklahomas rushing attack was one of the clearest blemishes on last seasons offense, and it is shaping up as a major point of emphasis heading into 2026. Oklahomas Media Day offered the first real checkpoint on Trell Harris as the Sooners began setting the table for fall camp in 2026, and wide receivers coach Emmett Jones sounded calm about where the receiver is in his rehab. Harris has dealt with a minor offseason setback, but the staff still views him as on track, with the kind of pure route-running skill set that can fit neatly alongside Isaiah Sategna and give the room a different look when he is fully back.
For now, the focus is simply on getting Harris back into football movements and building him up without rushing the process. Jones indicated he should be running routes soon, though his availability right as camp opens remains less clear, and Oklahoma will be watching closely because the ceiling of the passing game could rise once Harris is healthy enough to stack reps and become a reliable complement to Sategna.
