The Oklahoma Sooners might be adding another Beers to the family.
Rocky Beers, a standout tight end from Colorado State - and the brother of OU women’s basketball star Raegan Beers - is expected to enter the transfer portal when it opens on January 2. And based on his production and pedigree, he’s not just another name in the mix - he’s a name to watch.
Let’s start with the family connection. Raegan Beers made her own portal move to Norman from Oregon State in 2024, and she’s been nothing short of dominant since arriving.
The 6-foot-4 center has been a force for Jennie Baranczyk’s squad, averaging 18.1 points and 10.8 rebounds through 12 games this season - both up from her already-impressive numbers last year. She was a First-Team All-SEC selection and an All-American honorable mention, and she’s well on her way to repeating those honors.
Now, her brother Rocky is looking to make a similar leap - this time on the football field.
A redshirt senior with one year of eligibility remaining, Rocky Beers has taken a winding road to this point, with previous stops at Air Force, Florida International, and most recently Colorado State. But it was in Fort Collins where he finally broke out. Beers hauled in 31 catches for 388 yards and seven touchdowns this season - not just a team-high, but a program record for touchdowns in a season by a tight end.
And it’s not just the numbers that pop. Beers checks all the physical boxes at 6-foot-5, 250 pounds - a big, athletic target who knows how to use his frame in the red zone. That size and production make him an intriguing fit for the SEC, especially for a program like Oklahoma that could be looking to bolster its tight end room.
The Sooners had seven tight ends on their 2025 roster, but only one - Jaren Kanak, a converted linebacker - is out of eligibility. The catch?
Kanak was by far the most productive of the group. And in today’s transfer portal era, it’s almost a given that at least one tight end will move on, especially when playing time was limited for much of the depth chart.
That opens the door for someone like Beers, who not only brings proven production but also fits the mold of the kind of tight end coach Joe Jon Finley has targeted in the past. Last cycle, Finley dipped into the Group of Five ranks to add depth at the position. Beers, however, brings more to the table than any of those previous additions - both in terms of stats and SEC-ready physicality.
There’s also the added element of familiarity. With his sister already thriving in Norman, and a clear need at the position, the Sooners could have a built-in edge if they choose to pursue him.
Bottom line: Rocky Beers is a tight end with size, production, and a connection to Oklahoma. That’s a rare combination in a portal cycle where quality tight ends are often hard to find. If OU is looking to reload at the position, Beers should absolutely be on the radar.
