Oklahoma Lands a Big One: Bowe Bentley, the Nation’s No. 6 QB, Signs with the Sooners
There’s a new name for Oklahoma fans to get excited about - and it’s one they’ll want to remember. Bowe Bentley, the sixth-ranked quarterback in the country, made it official on Wednesday, signing his National Letter of Intent with the Sooners. For a program that’s built a reputation on elite quarterback play, this is another major win on the recruiting trail.
Bentley, a standout from Celina, Texas, chose Oklahoma over a loaded list of suitors that included Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Texas Tech, and Indiana. His commitment back in June came shortly after visits to both Norman and Athens, but it was clear something about Oklahoma clicked. Now, six months later, he’s locked in and ready to don the crimson and cream.
And make no mistake - the Sooners aren’t just getting a top-tier recruit. They’re getting a proven winner.
Bentley led Celina High School to a perfect 16-0 season and their first state title since 2007, putting up video game numbers along the way. Over 4,200 total yards.
Sixty-three touchdowns. That’s not just dominance - that’s command.
And he did it all as a junior.
What makes Bentley special isn’t just the stat sheet, though. It’s how he plays the position.
According to national analyst Hunter Standish, Bentley brings a rare blend of arm talent and athleticism. He’s got what Standish calls an “elastic throwing motion,” which allows him to keep his velocity even when he’s on the move.
He’s comfortable working from the pocket, but he’s just as dangerous when he’s improvising - firing darts on the run, threading tight windows, and throwing with touch when the moment calls for it.
That’s the kind of versatility that translates to the college level - especially in a system like Oklahoma’s, where quarterbacks are expected to make plays both on schedule and off script.
Bentley is already drawing comparisons to current Sooners starter John Mateer, and for good reason. Mateer has had a breakout season in his first year under center, leading Oklahoma to a 10-2 regular-season record and putting them in prime position for a College Football Playoff berth. If Bentley follows a similar trajectory, the Sooners could be looking at another star in the making.
Per the 247Sports Composite rankings, Bentley checks in as the No. 6 quarterback and the No. 68 overall recruit in the country - a clear indicator of how highly he’s regarded on the national stage.
For Oklahoma, this isn’t just a signing. It’s a statement. The Sooners are continuing to stack elite talent at the most important position in football, and Bentley looks like the next in a long line of game-changers to take the reins in Norman.
