With the 2026 season still under two weeks away, Oklahoma is already lining up the kind of fall campus traffic that can shape a recruiting cycle. The Sooners are set to host several highly regarded prospects on gameday visits, and the list is headlined by a few of the best young defenders in the country.
One of the biggest names coming through Norman is Class of 2028 athlete Kamieon Compton-Nero of Owasso, Okla. He’ll be in the building for Oklahoma’s opener against UTEP on Sept. 4, then return for the Red River Rivalry matchup with Texas on Oct. 10.
Compton-Nero is a consensus 4-star recruit at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds. In 247Sports’ composite rankings, he checks in as the No. 48 overall prospect, the No. 1 athlete and the top player in Oklahoma in the 2028 class.
Oklahoma is recruiting him to play safety, and the production already backs up the hype. As a sophomore at Rejoice Christian School, he posted 95 tackles, five interceptions and three return touchdowns.
He also piled up 3,335 yards of offense and scored 49 total touchdowns.
He’s no stranger to Oklahoma, either. Compton-Nero has already made several trips to campus, including three gameday visits last year. He previously told Sooners On SI that he was “excited” to continue building relationships with OU’s staff.
And Oklahoma won’t be the only stop on his fall schedule. According to his X account, he also plans gameday visits to Ole Miss, Alabama, SMU, Texas Tech, LSU and Notre Dame.
Another defensive back on the Sooners’ radar is Jordan Hicks of Mission Viejo, Calif., who will also be in Norman this fall, per Blair Angulo of 247Sports. Hicks is a consensus 4-star cornerback, listed at 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, and he ranks No. 144 overall in the 247Sports composite for the 2028 class.
Hicks has put together a strong sophomore season on paper at Mission Viejo High School, finishing with 62 tackles, five interceptions, five pass breakups, three forced fumbles and 1.5 tackles for loss. His visit calendar is crowded, too. Along with Oklahoma, he is set to take gameday trips to USC, UCLA, Alabama, Nebraska, Miami and Oregon.
Oklahoma also remains in the mix for Arizona safety Jaelyn Easterling-Flores, who is down to six schools, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back is a consensus top-100 prospect and ranks No. 59 overall in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the Class of 2028.
Easterling-Flores turned in a busy sophomore year at Desert Edge High School in Goodyear, Ariz., with 45 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He also shares a high school locker room with OU cornerback commit Mikyal Davis, a 2027 prospect.
The other schools still on Easterling-Flores’ list are LSU, Texas, Auburn, Georgia Tech and Miami.
Defensive line is another area where Oklahoma is still firmly in the picture. The Sooners made the cut for Kellan Hall, who has trimmed his list to 12 schools, per Fawcett.
Hall is a 5-star recruit and the No. 2 overall player in the 2028 class according to Rivals. The Louisville, Ky., native is also a consensus top-10 prospect at 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds.
Oklahoma has already hosted Hall four times for unofficial visits, most recently in June. He also competed at one of the Brent Venables Football Camps before returning for a full unofficial visit on his 16th birthday.
Hall’s top 12, per Fawcett, also includes Ohio State, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas A&M, LSU, Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas, Oregon, Miami and Kentucky.
