Oklahoma’s 2028 recruiting board is already starting to take shape, and the Sooners are pushing hard to get some of the class’s biggest names back to Norman this fall.
That effort comes while OU’s 2027 class is already deep. The Sooners have 27 commitments in the cycle with less than six months to go before Early Signing Day in December, and the staff is now working to hold that group together while also building ahead.
General manager Jim Nagy and his staff have been active early with the next wave, handing out offers across the 2028 class and landing quarterback Trey Tagliaferri as the program’s first commitment in the cycle. With home games coming up, Oklahoma plans to use those weekends to bring in a long list of recruits.
One of the biggest names on that list is Louisville, KY, defensive lineman Kellan Hall. He’s already shown plenty of interest in the Sooners, including a June trip to one of Brent Venables Football Camps followed by a full unofficial visit. Hall has also been on campus three other times, including for Oklahoma’s 24-13 win against Michigan in September 2025.
Hall is a 5-star prospect and the No. 8 overall player in the 2028 class in 247Sports’ composite rankings. He’s listed at 6-4 and 265 pounds. Hall told Sooners On SI that his gameday visit to Norman was surreal, and OU must prioritize getting him to another game in 2026.
Another major target is edge rusher Jalanie George, who has Oklahoma in his top six, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals. The Goodyear, AZ, native is ranked No. 9 overall and is also a 5-star prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings.
George put together a strong junior season at Desert Edge High School, finishing with 54 total tackles, 33 solo tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 11 games. He also has a familiar connection to OU through teammate Mikyal Davis, a 2027 Sooners commit at cornerback and a consensus 3-star recruit.
Oklahoma is also expected to keep working on Saraland, AL, edge rusher Keoni Snipes. The 6-5, 245-pound defensive end is a consensus 4-star prospect and a top-100 player in the 2028 class.
247Sports lists him at No. 67 overall. In 2025, Snipes totaled 30 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks for Saraland High School.
He, too, has a Sooners connection through a teammate: 2027 quarterback Jamison Roberts, who committed to Oklahoma in March.
Another name already familiar with Norman is Owasso, OK, safety and quarterback Kamieon Compton-Nero. He visited for three OU games in the fall of 2025 and then made two unofficial visits in the first few months of 2026.
Compton-Nero had a huge sophomore season at Rejoice Christian School, piling up 95 tackles and five interceptions on defense while also handling a major role on offense. He finished with 2,584 passing yards, 38 passing touchdowns, 751 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. He’s a 4-star recruit across the major recruiting services, and his offer list includes Alabama, Texas A&M, Oregon, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Michigan and Oklahoma State.
Even with Tagliaferri already committed at quarterback, Oklahoma is still looking at other signal callers. One of them is Brentwood, TN, quarterback Gavin Strang, who was in Norman for camp in June.
Strang is listed at 6-5 and 185 pounds and is unranked by Rivals. As a sophomore at Brentwood High School, he completed more than 65 percent of his passes for over 1,900 yards and 19 touchdowns. Kentucky is his only other Power Four offer right now, though that could change as he gets more varsity experience.
Running back Micah Rhodes is another 2028 name worth watching, even though he is no longer in the class. Rhodes committed to Oklahoma in January before backing off that pledge in April. The Spring, TX, tailback is a consensus 4-star prospect.
Rhodes ran for 1,307 yards and 21 touchdowns as a sophomore at Klein Oak High School in 2025. That came after a freshman season in which he rushed for 934 yards and 10 touchdowns and earned MaxPreps Freshman All-American honors. He may now lean toward major in-state programs like Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech, but Oklahoma is still expected to keep trying to pull him back into the fold.

Brent Venables Just Earned National Respect For Oklahomas Bigger Rebuild
Brent Venables keeps getting evaluated through the usual Oklahoma lens, but this latest nod points to something bigger than wins and losses. He was placed on the Dodd Trophy preseason watch list for the 2026 season, a reminder that the award is built around scholarship, leadership and integrity as much as on-field results, and that his work in Norman has been noticed well beyond the box score.
For Oklahoma, it also fits the broader rebuild Venables has been pushing since taking over, with player development and leadership at the center of the message. The Sooners have had only one head coach take home the award before, Bob Stoops in 2003, so any mention of Venables in that conversation says plenty about how his program is being viewed as he keeps trying to reshape the culture. Sooners Land Another Massive Recruiting Boost From In-State Commit
Gabriel Osborne Jr. keeps adding to an already eye-catching start for Oklahomas 2027 class. The Mustang cornerback, who committed to the Sooners on June 1, has now been bumped to five-star status in the latest Rivals 300 rankings and sits at No. 21 nationally, a rise that only sharpens the profile of a class that already looks loaded with top-end talent.
For Oklahoma, the bigger picture is hard to miss. Osborne joins offensive lineman Cooper Hackett and tight end Seneca Driver as five-star headliners in a 2027 group that Rivals has at No. 6 nationally with 27 commits, and the Sooners beat out heavyweights such as Miami, Alabama, Ohio State and Michigan to land him. The only real question now is how much more the class can climb if the momentum keeps building. [Read more 🡒]
