The road in front of Oklahoma is lined with ranked opponents, and the latest US LBM Coaches Poll only sharpened the picture.
After a 41-13 loss to Georgia, the Sooners sit at 2-2 and 0-1 in the SEC, with their offense still searching for answers. Over the last three weeks, Oklahoma has managed just 12.3 points per game, a stretch that leaves the bye week carrying real weight as the Sooners try to sort things out before Texas arrives.
The schedule does not offer much breathing room. Oklahoma still has five teams remaining who are ranked in this week’s coaches poll: No.
1 Texas in two weeks in the Red River Showdown, No. 8 Florida, No.
12 Ole Miss, No. 16 Mississippi State and No.
25 Missouri.
That’s a difficult run for any team. For Oklahoma, it lands at a moment when the offense has been stuck in place and the margin for error has shrunk fast.
The Sooners are still receiving votes, but they are among the bottom six teams in that category.
The top of the poll stayed crowded with familiar names. Texas held the No. 1 spot, followed by Georgia, Notre Dame, Miami and Indiana.
Florida made one of the biggest jumps in the rankings, climbing to No. 8 after a win over Ole Miss. Mississippi State also broke into the poll at No.
