Oklahoma's Road Test: A Chance to Shine in Knoxville
Oklahoma is riding a wave of momentum after securing their second consecutive win against Georgia. Now, the Sooners (13-12, 3-9) hit the road for a crucial matchup against Tennessee (18-7, 8-4) on Wednesday night in Knoxville.
For the Sooners, the path to the NCAA Tournament is still steep, but not impossible. With newfound energy, they aim for a third straight victory. A win against the Volunteers could breathe life into their tournament hopes, nudging them closer to the bubble conversation.
Tennessee, meanwhile, is on a roll. Just outside the AP Top 25, the Volunteers have clinched six victories in their last seven outings and are tied for third in the SEC.
A win over Oklahoma would bolster their tournament resume and potentially improve their seeding. Rick Barnes, in his 11th year at the helm, has his team playing some of their best basketball.
This matchup marks only the third meeting between Oklahoma and Tennessee. The Volunteers have claimed victory in both previous encounters.
Last season, a top-5 Tennessee team triumphed in Norman with a 70-52 win. Their only other meeting dates back to 1968 in Knoxville.
After their Tennessee clash, the Sooners return home to face Texas A&M on Saturday night at the Lloyd Noble Center. This game will feature a special ceremony to honor Sooner legend Buddy Hield, as his No. 24 jersey is retired. The 2016 Final Four team will also be celebrated on their 10-year anniversary.
