Lane Kiffin's Daughter Sparks New Oklahoma Controversy

As Landry Kiffin faces criticism for her SEC team loyalties, her social media choices spotlight the vibrant and often unforgiving world of college football fandom.

Lane Kiffin had a rough Saturday on the field, and his daughter Landry caught heat online for her own SEC rooting choices.

Landry, who goes to Ole Miss, spent the weekend cheering on Texas in the Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma. She posted “a change of scenery,” and that was enough to set off plenty of reactions in her Instagram comments.

Some fans had fun with it, while others went after her for bouncing around between SEC programs. “Just can’t pick a winning team 🤦,” one fan joked.

“Bro lsu AND Texas lost 😭😭 yo please don’t root for ole miss gang 🙏🏻,” one fan added. “Didn’t your boy play for LSU?

😂,” one fan added.

It’s not exactly a mystery why Landry’s college football loyalties can look a little scattered. Her father is LSU head coach Lane Kiffin, LSU is his team, her boyfriend Whit Weeks plays linebacker there, and she’s also a student at Ole Miss, so the Rebels are part of the picture too. Over the weekend, Texas became the latest program to get her support, even though the Longhorns lost to Oklahoma.

Back in Baton Rouge, Kiffin was dealing with a tougher result of his own. LSU took an upset loss at Kentucky, and he pointed to the Wildcats’ punt return touchdown as a major example of what went wrong.

“If you don’t execute, you don’t execute,” Kiffin told reporters. “The punt return, you got a player there tackling him and doesn’t tackle him, and he goes outside and, you know, on the long run, he swooped out of a gap and the ball goes for a long run.

If you don’t do fundamentally sound stuff, you get exposed versus good teams.”

He also said LSU had chances to put the game away and didn’t finish. “When the chance comes in the fourth quarter, you can’t let ’em hang around,” Kiffin told reporters.

“We had the ball ahead and then we turned the ball over. And another chance to end it there so they don’t get it back.

Obviously, things go the other way, you look at yourself first.”

LSU fell to 4-2 with the loss.

Oklahoma May Have Finally Found Its Answer At Running Back

For much of the Texas game, Oklahomas rushing attack looked stuck in neutral, producing only one yard on 13 carries in the first half. Then Lloyd Avant changed the feel of the offense after halftime, giving the Sooners a much-needed spark on the ground with a productive second half that included a touchdown and helped steady an attack that had been leaning too heavily on other answers.

Brent Venables and offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle pointed to the teams persistence and execution as the difference, but Avants emergence may be the bigger takeaway for Oklahoma moving forward. He has climbed into the starting role, and after a performance like that against Texas, the Sooners have to feel better about where the backfield is headed even if the larger evaluation is still unfolding. Oklahoma May Be Getting A Huge O-Line Boost This Week

A much-needed boost could be on the way for Oklahoma up front as Brent Venables said offensive lineman Michael Fasusi is nearing a return from the shoulder injury he suffered in the season opener. Fasusi has been out for several games, but his recent signs of progress have been hard to miss, from taking part in walkthroughs to dressing for the last four games.

Fasusis availability for the Kentucky game still hangs in the balance for now, with the SEC injury report set to provide a clearer read later in the week. For an Oklahoma line that can use every bit of stability it can get, even the possibility of adding Fasusi back into the mix is an encouraging development worth watching closely. [Read more 🡒]

Oklahomas Texas Win May Already Be Paying Off With Key Recruit

Oklahomas upset of No. 1 Texas did more than reshape the rivalry for one Saturday. It may also have given the Sooners a real boost on the recruiting trail, where momentum often matters just as much as the scoreboard. Rivals national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman recently projected a strong chance that 2028 four-star linebacker Tylan Henderson could end up in Norman, a sign that the win may already be resonating beyond the current roster.

Henderson, a highly ranked linebacker from Pflugerville Weiss High School, has plenty of options and has already drawn interest from multiple schools. Oklahoma is a relatively new player in his recruitment, but the timing of the offer and the excitement around the Texas win have put the Sooners in a more intriguing position than they were in just a week ago. Whether that early buzz turns into something more will be worth watching as his recruitment continues to develop. [Read more 🡒]
