Deland McCullough Joins Sooners With Bold Promise for RBs

Renowned coach Deland McCullough joins the Sooners, promising to bring precision and discipline to Oklahoma's running backs.

In a move that has Oklahoma fans buzzing, Brent Venables has brought a familiar, yet new, face to the Sooners' offensive coaching lineup. Deland McCullough is stepping in as the new running backs coach, filling the shoes left by DeMarco Murray, who recently joined the Kansas City Chiefs.

McCullough, a seasoned veteran with 15 years of experience coaching running backs at both the college and NFL levels, has a unique connection to the Sooners. His sons, Dasan and Daeh, both played under Venables at Oklahoma.

Dasan showcased his skills as a linebacker, while Daeh joined the program as a safety. Although both have since transferred, the family maintains a strong bond with Venables and the university.

Venables expressed his enthusiasm about McCullough's arrival, highlighting his leadership, teaching prowess, and motivational skills. "Deland has an impeccable reputation," Venables stated. "His experience is exceptional, and he had a strong reputation going into the interview process."

Despite their prior relationship being more personal-centered around his sons' time at OU-Venables was impressed by McCullough's professional hunger and alignment with the program's values. He noted that McCullough is poised to make an immediate impact from both a development and leadership perspective.

With McCullough on board, Oklahoma's backfield is in capable hands, and fans can look forward to seeing how his expertise shapes the team's future success.
