The Arkansas women's basketball team tried to get in a jab at the Oklahoma Sooners on social media, but it was the Sooners who delivered the knockout punch on the court. In a game that was anything but close, Oklahoma dismantled Arkansas 89-44 at the Lloyd Noble Center during OU's Senior Night.
This all started when the Arkansas team's official social media account attempted some playful trolling. They referenced an earlier incident where a popcorn machine fire delayed an Oklahoma men's basketball game against Georgia. Arkansas posted a picture of the concession area with the caption, "Guess we aren't having popcorn tonight."
While the post might have drawn a few laughs, it didn’t change the fact that Arkansas was winless in SEC play. The Sooners, ranked No. 7, didn’t need any extra motivation and may not have even seen the post before the game. However, they responded emphatically after the win, tweeting back, "We’ll just pop off on the court instead."
And pop off they did. Oklahoma shot an impressive 46% from the field, with every starter hitting double figures.
Freshman point guard Aaliyah Chavez led the charge with 16 points, while fellow freshman Brooklyn Stewart added 11 off the bench. The Sooners' defense was just as dominant, forcing 18 turnovers and racking up 11 steals.
Meanwhile, Arkansas struggled to find any rhythm, with no player reaching double digits in scoring.
The Sooners' performance was a statement, showing that they could light up the court just as much as any viral social media post.
