Thunder Suddenly Have A New Bench Storyline Fans Can't Ignore

Micah Peavy's recent performances hint at his potential emergence as a key two-way force for the Oklahoma City Thunder amidst an injury-depleted roster.

Oklahoma City needed more than Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to snap back into the win column Monday night, and Micah Peavy answered the call.

The Thunder edged the Cleveland Cavaliers 117-112 on the road on Nov. 2, getting a much-needed result after dropping two straight following significant injuries to Chet Holmgren, Cason Wallace and Jalen Williams. Gilgeous-Alexander still set the tone, but OKC also got useful minutes from a deeper group that has been forced into bigger jobs.

Rookies Aday Mara and Bennett Stirtz have already helped steady the rotation, and Kenrich Williams has taken on a larger role. Against Cleveland, Mark Daigneault had to dip even further into the bench and leaned on two-way signees Micah Peavy and Josh Dix.

Dix joined Oklahoma City after going undrafted in the 2026 class, while Peavy arrived after second-round pick Otega Oweh suffered a season-ending injury and was waived by the team.

Peavy’s path to this point has already been a winding one. He was a second-round pick by New Orleans in 2025 and played 61 games for the Pelicans as a rookie, averaging 4.3 points, 1.9 rebounds and an assist per game while shooting 38.5% from the field and 25.9% from 3-point range.

The Thunder signed him to a two-way deal on Oct. 24, and he has wasted little time getting on the floor. Through three games with OKC, Peavy is averaging 3.3 points and two rebounds per game.

He barely played in the Thunder’s Oct. 28 loss to Dallas, logging less than five minutes, but his role has grown quickly. Peavy has topped 13 minutes in each of the last two games, first going 1-of-2 from the field for two points and a rebound against Houston before making a bigger impact against Cleveland.

In the win over the Cavaliers, the 25-year-old finished with eight points, five rebounds and a turnover while shooting 2-of-4 from the field, 2-of-2 from 3-point range and 2-of-2 at the line. He also grabbed a few key rebounds and knocked down a triple in a tight second half.

Peavy’s 16 minutes, 13 seconds against Cleveland ranked third among Thunder bench players and eighth on the team overall. If he keeps producing like that, Oklahoma City will likely keep finding him minutes.

Former Sixer Dalen Terry Just Landed An Intriguing New Chance

Dalen Terrys latest stop gives him another shot to stick in the NBA, and it comes at a time when Oklahoma City can use the help. The former first-round pick was waived by the Warriors after training camp, then left Golden States G League affiliate to join the Thunder, who had an open roster spot and a clear need for wing depth.

For Oklahoma City, the move is as much about covering ground as it is about upside. The Thunder are navigating multiple long-term injuries, so adding another athletic perimeter option makes sense even if the arrangement is expected to be a modest one. Terry now gets a chance to compete for a role in a situation where opportunity is available, and the Thunder get a low-risk look at a player with some pedigree still attached to his name. Thunder Title Hopes Suddenly Hinge On Two Massive Unknowns

Jalen Williams injury has changed the feel around Oklahoma Citys title chase, because a team built to contend now has to navigate the stretch run without one of its most important pieces. NBA insider Zach Lowe has said Williams could still make it back this season, but the practical expectation around the league is that the Thunder are preparing for a long absence while still leaving the door open for a late return if the team or player never shuts it.

That uncertainty is landing at the same time Oklahoma City is trying to fortify the roster elsewhere. The Thunder signed Dalen Terry and are expected to keep working the trade market before the deadline, with the front office likely looking for salary-based moves to add depth without touching Williams. For a team with championship aspirations, the next few weeks may be less about one injured star than about how aggressively the Thunder choose to patch the holes around him. [Read more 🡒]

Thunder Fill Final Roster Spot As Rotation Pressure Suddenly Grows

Oklahoma City is using its final roster spot on wing depth, with reports saying the Thunder are signing Dalen Terry to a two-year deal. Terry, who has spent time with the Bulls and 76ers, gives the defending group another versatile defender at a moment when the margin for error has shrunk, even if the team has not officially announced the move yet.

The timing matters because the Thunder are suddenly navigating a stretch without several key rotation pieces, and that has opened the door for a player like Terry to matter sooner than expected. His fit is straightforward on paper, defense, length and energy, but the bigger question is how much responsibility he can absorb if Oklahoma City needs him to play real minutes while the roster gets healthy again.
