Thunder Reveal Key Injury Ahead of First Showdown With Raptors

Injury absences could play a pivotal role as the Thunder seek to bounce back against the surging Raptors in their first meeting of the season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are set to host the Toronto Raptors on Sunday in what will be the first meeting between these two teams this season. For OKC, it’s a chance to get back on track after a tough one, while the Raptors are looking to keep their momentum rolling.

The Thunder, sitting at an impressive 37-9, are coming off a frustrating 117-114 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Friday-a game that saw Shai Gilgeous-Alexander go full takeover mode with 47 points. Chet Holmgren chipped in 25 of his own, and together they combined for a massive 72 points.

But even that kind of offensive firepower couldn’t quite carry them over the finish line. It was one of those nights where the stars shined, but the supporting cast just couldn’t do enough to seal the deal.

On the other side, the Raptors are quietly putting together a strong stretch. Winners of three straight, they notched a 110-98 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday to continue a productive road trip. Brandon Ingram and Immanuel Quickley each poured in 20 points, giving Toronto a balanced offensive attack that’s been clicking of late.

Injuries are a major storyline heading into Sunday’s matchup-especially for the Thunder, who are navigating a laundry list of absences. Jalen Williams (hamstring), Isaiah Hartenstein (soleus), Ajay Mitchell (abdomen), Alex Caruso (adductor), Nikola Topic (testicular surgery), and Thomas Sorber (torn ACL) are all out.

Aaron Wiggins is questionable with a hip issue. That’s a significant chunk of the rotation, and it’s forced OKC to lean heavily on its stars and test the depth of the roster.

Toronto, by comparison, is in a much better spot health-wise. Jakob Poeltl remains sidelined with a back strain, while Collin Murray-Boyles (thumb) and Ja’Kobe Walter (hip) are both listed as questionable. Chucky Hepburn, on a two-way deal, won’t be available.

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT from Oklahoma City. With the Thunder looking to bounce back and the Raptors riding a hot streak, this one has the makings of a high-energy, high-stakes matchup-even in January.
