The Oklahoma City Thunder have put a new name on the board as they look to fill an open roster spot, signing Spencer Jones to a two-year, $12 million offer sheet, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto. The Denver Nuggets now have 48 hours to decide whether to match.
That move comes after Oklahoma City traded away Lu Dort, leaving the club with a vacant 15-player roster spot. Rather than simply patching the hole, the Thunder appear to be trying to add a useful piece at the back end of the roster.
Jones has spent the past two seasons with Denver and has quietly carved out a role. This past season, he averaged 5.5 points while shooting 50.4% from the field, along with 3.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists. He also knocked down 39.6% of his 3-point tries on 2.3 attempts per game.
The 25-year-old went undrafted in the 2024 NBA draft and spent most of his first two years on a two-way deal before the Nuggets converted him to a standard contract in Feb. 2026. He has emerged as one of Denver’s breakout depth players in recent years.
For Oklahoma City, this is a different kind of play. The Thunder rarely enter restricted free agency this way, and even less often as the team putting the offer sheet on the table. Now they’ve put Denver in a bind as it works to trim its tax bill: match the deal or risk losing a valuable depth player to a divisional rival.
