Ohio State’s trip to Indiana has already brought a little sideline tension, and FOX cameras made sure everyone saw it.
Julian Sayin has not looked like the quarterback Buckeyes fans were expecting against No. 5 Indiana in Bloomington. The Hoosiers’ defensive line has been disruptive from the start, and Sayin has been off his game early.
That showed up again in the second quarter after a miscommunication with 5-star freshman Chris Henry Jr. forced Ohio State to punt once more. As Sayin headed back toward the sideline, the broadcast caught Ryan Day looking none too happy with what he had just seen.

Just before that, Sayin had Jeremiah Smith open deep and a chance to swing the game back in Ohio State’s favor. The throw never got there.
Sayin underthrew it by roughly 3-4 yards, and the ball hit the turf instead of putting Smith in position to score. There was a questionable pass interference no-call on Smith, but the bigger issue was the throw itself.
It was another miss in a rough opening stretch for the quarterback.
The frustration is easy to understand because this game carries extra weight inside the Ohio State locker room. Plenty of Buckeyes still remember last winter’s loss to Indiana in the Big Ten title game, a defeat that helped send the season off the rails.
Charlie Becker’s viral postgame video only added fuel to that anger. The hope was that Ohio State would get the chance to answer that in Week 7.
Instead, the offense has offered very little outside of the opening drive, which ended with a field goal. The defense has been doing the heavy lifting, with Matt Patricia’s plan helping keep Indiana from taking control of the game.
Right before halftime, Ohio State finally pieced together a 15-play, 80-yard drive to move in front 10-7. Even then, Sayin’s issues were still there. He continued to miss throws, but he did connect with Bo Jackson for the go-ahead score on fourth down.
Sayin already has an interception, and he’s going to have to sharpen things up in the second half. If he doesn’t, the noise around his play is only going to get louder, and Day’s reaction is going to make even more sense.

Ohio States Playoff Push Just Got A Tough Julian Sayin Twist
Ohio State kept its playoff push moving with a win over Indiana, but the Buckeyes left that game with a concern much bigger than the final score. Quarterback Julian Sayin exited with an arm injury, and Ryan Day said he is expected to be out for several weeks, a development that lands at an uneasy moment for a team trying to hold its footing in a crowded stretch of the schedule.
Luke Fahey, a freshman, is next in line to back up the offense while Sayin is sidelined, and the Buckeyes will have to navigate some tough upcoming games without their starting quarterback. At 6-1, Ohio State is still in solid position, but the margin for error gets a lot thinner now, especially with the kind of tests still ahead. [Read more 🡒]
Ohio State Suddenly Has A Running Back Problem To Solve
Ohio States backfield is suddenly thinner heading into the matchup with Indiana, with JaKobi Jackson confirmed out and his absence looking like it could linger beyond what the Buckeyes first hoped. The injury appears to be a foot issue based on what was seen during the game, and Jacksons message on Instagram suggested the recovery process may not be a quick one.
For now, Ohio State will need more from Bo Jackson and Legend Bey to help carry the load at running back. The timing matters because the Buckeyes were already counting on depth in that spot, and losing another piece forces the staff to adjust quickly as the game plan shifts toward the next man up. Ohio State's Big Win Just Created A Julian Sayin Problem
Julian Sayins afternoon against Indiana ended with an unsettling sight, as the Ohio State quarterback was forced out of the game and later left the locker room with his right throwing arm in a sling. The Buckeyes still found a way to hang on for a 19-15 win, a result that kept them from absorbing a second loss and dealt Indiana its first defeat since the end of the 2024 season.
For Ohio State, the victory was significant, but the bigger question now is what comes next at quarterback. Sayins status remains unknown after the injury, and the Buckeyes suddenly have to balance the value of a marquee win with the uncertainty surrounding the most important position on the field.
