Michigan Reportedly Eyeing Todd Monken in Search for Next Head Coach
With Michigan’s head coaching position wide open and the Wolverines looking to reset after a whirlwind year, the program is reportedly beginning to vet Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as a potential candidate to take the reins in Ann Arbor.
Monken, 59, has been calling plays for one of the NFL’s most dynamic offenses in Baltimore since 2023. Before that, he helped engineer back-to-back national titles as the offensive coordinator at Georgia from 2020 to 2022, building an offense that complemented the Bulldogs’ elite defense with balance, creativity, and efficiency.
His coaching résumé is deep and varied. Monken spent time in the NFL with the Buccaneers and Browns, and from 2013 to 2015, he served as head coach at Southern Miss. While his 13-25 record there might not jump off the page, it’s worth noting the program was in a rebuild mode when he arrived-and he did manage to guide them to a bowl game in his final season before heading to Tampa Bay.
Now, with Jim Harbaugh off to the NFL following the 2023 season and Sherrone Moore no longer with the program, Michigan is in full-on search mode. This is one of the premier jobs in college football-blue blood tradition, massive resources, and a fanbase that expects to win big, especially come late November when “The Game” rolls around.
Monken brings a unique blend of college and pro experience, and Michigan’s interest suggests they’re looking for a proven offensive mind who can develop talent, manage big games, and keep the Wolverines competitive at the highest level. He’s not the only name in the mix, but he’s certainly one to watch as Michigan evaluates its options.
James Nnaji Enrolls at Baylor, Eligible to Play Immediately
In a move that could ripple across the college basketball landscape, former NBA first-round pick James Nnaji has enrolled at Baylor and is eligible to play right away.
Nnaji, the 31st overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, never suited up in the NBA but spent time with FC Barcelona in Spain. The 7-footer was also part of the New York Knicks' Summer League roster earlier this year, giving him a taste of NBA-level competition without ever logging a regular-season minute.
Now, he’s back in the college game-and doing it in a big way. Baylor, a perennial Big 12 powerhouse, just added a high-level athlete with pro experience to its frontcourt. Nnaji’s presence immediately raises the Bears’ ceiling, especially in a conference that’s as deep and physical as any in the country.
But this move is bigger than just one player. Nnaji’s decision could signal a new trend: players who’ve been drafted but haven’t cracked an NBA rotation might see college as a viable, competitive, and developmentally rich environment. With NIL money in play and high-level coaching available, college hoops is starting to look more and more like a legitimate alternative to the G League or sitting on a bench overseas.
We’ll see how Nnaji adjusts to the college game, but make no mistake-this is a storyline worth tracking, not just for Baylor fans, but for the future of college basketball as a whole.
