As the 2026 college football season approaches, Ohio State is once again gearing up with one of the most talent-packed rosters in the nation. Despite the departure of four offensive and eight defensive starters, the Buckeyes remain poised for another championship run.
One player to keep an eye on is senior transfer safety Terry Moore, who lands at No. 19 on our top-20 list of players to watch this season.
Terry Moore's Journey So Far
Moore is set to make his debut for Ohio State, bringing with him a reputation as one of the top safeties in college football from his standout 2024 season at Duke. Although he missed the entire 2025 season due to a torn ACL, his previous performance was nothing short of spectacular.
In 2024, Moore earned a remarkable 90.1 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, the highest among Power Four safeties that year. His defensive prowess was evident as he allowed a mere 46.1 passer rating, notched 71 tackles, including seven for loss, and added a sack to his name.
Moore also showcased his ball-hawking skills with four interceptions and six pass breakups, earning him second-team All-ACC honors.
Moore's path to stardom wasn't typical. Originally a three-star recruit from Washington, North Carolina, he began his college career as a running back, rushing for 128 yards as a freshman.
It wasn't until 2023 that he switched to defense, a decision that quickly paid off. In his first full season as a safety, he recorded 43 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and two defended passes, hinting at his potential.
Expectations for the 2026 Season
Moore's arrival at Ohio State reunites him with safeties coach Matt Guerrieri, who initially recruited him to Duke. This reunion is expected to bolster the Buckeyes' defense, with Moore likely starting at free safety alongside Jaylen McClain, forming a formidable safety duo.
Replacing a first-round NFL Draft pick like Caleb Downs is no small task, but if Moore can return to his pre-injury form, he offers significant upside for Matt Patricia's defense in his second season. Earl Little Jr. is also anticipated to contribute to the safety rotation and may see time at nickel.
Spring football will be a crucial period for evaluating Moore's fit within Patricia's scheme and assessing his recovery from injury. All eyes will be on Moore as he looks to make an impact in Columbus and help lead Ohio State to gridiron glory.
