Ohio State’s 2028 class is already looking loaded, and Christopher Vargas may have only turned up the pressure.
With the five-star quarterback now committed to the Buckeyes, Ryan Day has landed three five-star pledges in the class. And if the buzz around wide receiver Braylon Clark and defensive lineman Tyzon Swann keeps building, Ohio State may not be done yet.
Swann wasted no time reacting to Vargas’ commitment, making it clear he was paying attention when the Buckeyes added the elite quarterback. The five-star defensive lineman is already one of the most watched names in the class, and Ohio State’s latest move seems to have given the program even more momentum with him.
Swann is the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2028 Rivals300, and the 6-4, 245-pound lineman checks in as the No. 2 defensive lineman in the country and No. 10 player nationally overall. He already holds 49 offers, a number that says plenty about how much of a priority he is across the sport. Ohio State is in the mix early, but Auburn, Florida and Maryland are also pushing hard for him.
Clark is another elite target with Ohio State drawing real attention. The 6-3, 185-pound receiver is ranked the No. 4 wideout in the country and No. 12 prospect overall in the 2028 class.
He has 34 offers, and his recruitment has also included strong interest from Tennessee and Oregon. Both Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons picked Ohio State this summer to land him.
The Buckeyes already have plenty to sell. Vargas joins fellow five-star commits Jett Harrison and Jameer Whyce, while four-star running back Elijah Newman-Hall is also in the fold. That kind of start has put Day’s 2028 recruiting effort in a different gear.
If Ohio State can get Clark and Swann on campus during the season, that would only strengthen the Buckeyes’ position. Right now, both prospects are giving the program a close look, and Ohio State appears to be firmly in the hunt for another pair of blue-chip additions.
