Ohio State Transfers Aim to Impress Ryan Day This Spring

Ohio State's new transfers face a critical spring as they aim to fill key roles and solidify their spots on Ryan Day's roster.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are navigating a transformative offseason, with over 30 players departing via the Transfer Portal. This exodus has left some noticeable gaps, but the Buckeyes have been proactive, bringing in nearly 20 new faces. As Spring ball approaches, a few of these newcomers have a lot riding on their performances, aiming to earn the trust of head coach Ryan Day.

Terry Moore

First up is Terry Moore, a safety from Duke with something to prove. After missing the entire 2025 season due to a knee injury, the question is whether Moore can return to his All-ACC form.

With Caleb Downs heading to the NFL, Moore is being eyed as a potential successor. While Downs set a high bar, Moore could be the ideal replacement if his knee holds up.

Spring practice will be crucial for him to show he's back to his best.

Kyle Parker

Wide receiver Kyle Parker, a transfer from LSU, is another player looking to make his mark. With Ohio State losing a slew of receivers to the portal, Parker was brought in by new wide receivers coach Cortex Hankton.

With Jeremiah Smith and Brandon Inniss leading the charge and Chris Henry Jr. expected to see significant time, Parker needs to prove he can be a reliable third or fourth option. The Buckeyes are in need of depth, and Parker’s performance this spring could be key.

Qua Russaw

Qua Russaw, a former five-star recruit from Alabama, joins the Buckeyes with high expectations. Despite his raw talent, Russaw has yet to fully realize his potential.

As an edge rusher, he has the chance to fill the void left by departing defensive line talent. His ability to generate pressure on the quarterback during Spring practice could determine his role in the upcoming season.

Connor Hawkins

Finally, there's Connor Hawkins, a kicker from Baylor who brings a sense of excitement. The Buckeyes have struggled with consistency in the kicking game, and Hawkins comes in with a stronger track record than his predecessor, Jayden Fielding. While Spring ball will offer a glimpse into his capabilities, the true test will come when the season starts and the pressure mounts.

Each of these players has a unique opportunity to make an impact at Ohio State. As Spring practice unfolds, all eyes will be on these newcomers to see if they can rise to the challenge and fill the shoes left by their predecessors.
