Ohio State’s search for help in the 2027 class has turned to a Florida State commitment, with the Buckeyes set to host four-star running back Jayden Miles for an official visit, according to Sam Spiegelman of Rivals.
Miles is also scheduled to visit LSU, but Ohio State is hoping to make the stronger push. The Buckeyes still need a running back in that 2027 group, and Miles has quickly become a name to watch as they look to finish out the class.
That need has only grown after Ohio State missed on David Gabriel Georges, who ended up at Tennessee after the Volunteers paid more than the Buckeyes were willing to go. The Buckeyes also came up short with Monshun Sales, which took some of the shine off a class that began with plenty of promise.
Ohio State does have a pair of five-star recruits in the class, but the program could have been sitting even prettier if those misses had gone the other way. At this point, Miles may be the main addition left for the Buckeyes in the 2027 cycle, though there could still be a couple more flip candidates they explore.
The timing matters, too, because Ohio State is coming off a brutal loss to Texas that has put Ryan Day under heavy scrutiny. The Buckeyes blew a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter, and the collapse has already been called the worst in program history.
Even with that setback, Ohio State’s goals are still right there. The Buckeyes can still beat TTUN, win the Big Ten and chase a national championship. But to get there, they’ll have to clean up the problems that surfaced against the Longhorns.
That next stretch will be important on the recruiting trail as well. High school players across the country will be watching how Ohio State responds, and the Buckeyes know they need to look like a team that can put the Texas loss behind them.
For now, the schedule gives them a little breathing room. Ohio State’s upcoming slate is light, which makes this a good window to sort through the issues that showed up against Texas before the tougher matchups arrive.
