As the snow blankets Columbus, Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes are gearing up for an exciting spring. With the season change comes a flurry of activity, both on and off the field, as the Buckeyes aim to build on last year’s campaign and make a deeper postseason run.
Spring is a crucial period in college football, and for Ohio State, it's all about preparation and recruitment. The Buckeyes, holding the No. 3 recruiting class nationally, are keen to bolster their ranks further.
A key focus is five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales from Indianapolis. Sales, a familiar name to Buckeye fans, has visited the campus multiple times, with his most recent unofficial visit in January.
Given Sales’ stature as a top recruit, he's on the radar of nearly every major program. Ohio State, however, remains a priority for him, as evidenced by his inclusion of the Buckeyes in his official visit schedule. He plans to visit Ohio State on June 12, with Alabama, Miami, and Indiana also in the mix.
Landing Sales would be a significant win for Ohio State, especially as they transition under new wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton. While Brian Hartline has moved on to a head coaching role at South Florida, Hankton has a chance to make his mark by securing commitments from top-tier talent like Sales.
Even if Sales chooses another path, Ohio State's wide receiver room is already strong. They've secured a commitment from five-star Jamier Brown and are hosting another top target, Eric McFarland, the same weekend as Sales. Adding both Sales and McFarland could make this one of Ohio State's best recruiting classes at the position.
Sales isn’t the only high-profile recruit eyeing Ohio State. Four-star offensive tackle Kweli Fielder from Georgia also announced an upcoming visit.
Although his official visits aren’t set, he plans to take an unofficial one to Ohio State this spring. Fielder, a sought-after prospect, has a packed visit schedule, including stops at Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia.
The offensive line is a priority for Ohio State in the 2027 class. They’ve already secured commitments from several three-star prospects and are targeting blue-chip recruits like Fielder and five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller. Fielder’s previous visit to Ohio State was for a game against Penn State, and the Buckeyes are eager to have him back.
Fielder ranks as the No. 4 offensive tackle in the 247Sports Composite and is a top recruit from Georgia. His decision could significantly impact Ohio State's future lineups.
In addition to these pursuits, Ohio State extended an offer to four-star tight end Mason Oglesby from Indiana. This offer comes after Oglesby announced his top six schools, which didn’t initially include Ohio State. Despite the late entry, the prestige of an Ohio State offer is hard to overlook.
Ryan Day and his staff are known for pulling off impressive recruiting feats, and they’ll need to work their magic again to secure these top talents. As spring unfolds, the Buckeyes are poised for an exciting recruitment period that could shape their future success.
