Ohio State Stars Sideline Drama as Spring Practice Kicks Off

In the midst of a challenging offseason, Ohio State begins spring practice with key injuries but remains focused on a championship comeback.

Ohio State football kicked off its spring practice with a fresh group of players taking the field, aiming to bounce back from a disappointing end to the 2025 season. The Buckeyes are setting their sights on a national championship for 2026, and the journey starts now.

The offseason saw significant changes, with 31 players entering the Transfer Portal. Despite this high turnover, head coach Ryan Day remains optimistic, highlighting the addition of experienced players who have joined the team.

However, spring practice isn't without its challenges. Key injuries are impacting the roster, with four notable players sidelined or limited.

At the forefront, both top running backs, Bo Jackson and Isaiah West, are out for the entire spring following offseason surgeries. Jackson, the established starter, and West, poised as his backup, are absent, but their roles seem secure for now.

Linebacker Riley Petijohn is also missing spring practice due to a shoulder injury. With Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles moving on to the NFL, Petijohn was eager to make a strong impression and vie for a starting position. Unfortunately, he'll have to watch from the sidelines.

On the offensive line, Josh Padilla is facing limitations during practice. Competing for the starting right guard spot, Padilla's absence gives Gabe VanSickle a chance to step up. With Tegra Tshabola gone, VanSickle is now in a prime position to secure that final spot on the line.

These injuries will undoubtedly shape the dynamics of spring practice, as the Buckeyes work to solidify their lineup and build momentum for the upcoming season.
